In September of 1994 I moved into the house I'd bought at 722 36 1/2 Ave. NE in Minneapolis. For 18 years it was my home, as well as the home of a number of my friends. Today... It is no longer mine. The closing was quick and painless, and the check is in the bank. All that's left is paying off the debts, which happens next week about Wednesday. I want to wait til the check is definitely cleared.

I'm going to miss it, and I already miss the people I'd lived with. Dave, Dan, Angela, George, Sean, Ed, Margaret, Mike (not me, the FAKE one), Joe, Anna, James, Chris (who's still here in the apartment with me) and Max. I think that was everyone. To you all, thank you for the times, good, bad and average. Time for a new start in the new apartment, debt free. :)

I can't recall if I posted this at all here before, so I'll say it again just in case- Plague House is going to be sold, and I and all the people currently here will be moving on. There is a lot going on right now, some of which I'm not at liberty to discuss. But, of the stuff I CAN talk about, there is the progress on fixing the place up for sale.

Tomorrow, the bathroom will be done other than fiddly bits (cleaning, maybe new towel racks and such), as will the front room. We're just gonna remove the carpet there and clean the floor, as the wood is in good shape. The kitchen ceiling has been mudded, and will be sanded and likely primed tomorrow. So, there's a lot of progress!

Also, we talked to a realtor from ReMax yesterday. Looks like I should be able to get a decent price for the place, but unless I get the midrange to high amounts she provided as estimates I'll either have to short dad and my brother a bit on payback, or not pay off the whole credit card. However, no matter what things will be better than they are now.

The fix-up stuff that remains includes the new carpet in the back room and my bedroom, carpet in [livejournal.com profile] mirrdae's room, and removing the carpet from [livejournal.com profile] ataramos's room- that won't happen til people have moved out. Obviously, there'll still be a lot of cleaning to do, as well as disposing of all the crap I'm not taking with me. Oh- As suggested by the realtor, we're likely going to have to replace the furnace and central air- like as not it won't pass the city inspection, and replacing them will provide a better selling price. We'll be fixing the parking pad in back as well, but that's not nearly as much of an issue as the furnace and such.

Part of me is looking forward to all this being done, another part is terrified- this is a MAJOR change, and part of the price is effectively losing contact with several people I consider friends. Its also a terrible disruption to their lives as well, and I'm not happy about that, either- but it's really not much of a choice for me anymore.

In the end, I'll have the memories of the place, and a new home to call my own. here's hoping for relatively smooth sailing in the getting there.

Its early morning and I'm back at the Holiday Inn East in St. Paul. I'll be here through Thursday night/Friday morning, and maybe that weekend as well- But I'm not sure there. Its not too bad, I can type and chat on the net between rounds and such, but the $40-a-week in gas it costs to get here makes it definitely not worth it as a permanent account. Hell, that kinda disqualifies ANY account on this end of town!

I haven't finished the primer-coat on the garage doors yet, that will probably happen this morning when I get home. Yesterday I was too tired and achy, and spent the day kinda lying around. As she mentioned in her journal, [livejournal.com profile] ataramos is back in Wisconsin for about a month, and I hope she enjoys the trip! It's gonna be interesting to see how Lady reacts to her not being there, as Ata is kinda Lady's 'human.'

In other things, I also didn't go to fireworks on the 4th- neither I nor Ata really felt up to it. Maybe sometime this week I'll go to Hancock or one of the other flicks I've yet to see.

Other than that, its a night.

Snow??

Well, I just got to work. There are about 6 to 8 inches of snow on the ground, and if a) I didn't have to dig out tomorrow and b) my car hadn't decided to stop working, it'd be a nice thing to see. Its not too cold, and there's a bit of wind so the snow is drifting some; the drive into work (in [livejournal.com profile] mirrdae's car wasn't too bad, but then I take added precautions when not driving my own car... I'm betting there are gonna be a lot of ditch-dives and fender-benders tonight.

Tomorrow is the first of the next GURPs Buffy Horror runs; I may or may not be going, depending on several things- road conditions, how I feel and whether I have an operative vehicle. I'll not be bothering Mirr to borrow his car just to go to a game. Scott- If you see this, I'll call and let you know what the deal is tomorrow.

As it is I've got a nagging headache that starts in my neck and arches over my head to just behind my right eye, that just won't go away. if that's still there, I'll prolly just stay in anyway.

Yahyah, Bitchbitchbitch. I can whine here occasionally if i wanna! As long as it doesn't become a habit...

Today was a kinda LONG day. First off, I got to pull an extra 4 hours at work, because one of the day guys called in sick. I'm not complaining, its an extra $50! Then, I picked up [livejournal.com profile] ataramos at the airport and got her home- I'll let her describe stuff there, as it's her deal, not mine. Then, I crashed. I didn't quite get the amount of sleep I wanted, but oh well. I'll prolly sleep in tomorrow. So now I'm up, and the guys apparently went out while I was asleep, and have just gotten home. So here I am, awaiting food.

Oh- last night at work I decided to take some pics from the top of one of the buildings, to get some shots of the city (Minneapolis). I'm going to try to 'knit' some of them together into a panoramic shot (the camera has a function to do that), if the two side images aren't too dark. Anyway, here are two of them, likely the two best.

Well, Yesterday was okay. [livejournal.com profile] khirsahdrgn and Athrin got here... I thought they were arriving today! But this gave them time to get Khir moved downstairs and Athrin into Khir's old room. I got the marinara done, the chicken is in the fridge thawing, the cheese-cubes are cut and ready for the cheese-tray, and much of the cleaning is done.

However...

I decided to clean the bathroom. Originally, the plan was to leave the tub for later, and just close the shower doors. But, I couldn't stand how AWFUL it looked, and started in on it. I went through a full spraybottle of lysol tub & tile just doing the back, and that didn't get all of it. I then switched to 'The Works' tub and tile- I had 2 bottles of the stuff and figgered that would carry me through the rest of it.

WRONG.

It turned the soap scum and whatever else was clinging to the walls and sides of the tub into this pastelike... goo. Eurgh. The stuff was so obnoxious it made the scrub-sponge I was using into a useless cake of goo, just smearing the stuff around rather than removing it. I blew through two sponges, mostly after I started with 'The Works'.

I'm on a break from it for a bit. I'm gonna run to the store, if Cub is open, to get bread for the party- Bring the garlic bread too, [livejournal.com profile] firecatmn; it'll get eaten. :) I'll also be getting more scrub-sponges and the lysol cleaner. Notably, I'll NEVER use 'The Works' again, and I advise EVERYONE to avoid the crap.

Discounting what's done, I still have the floor and toilet to do. :P

I think this just may be my LEAST favorite chore, INCLUDING yardwork.

Well, that was interesting. Over the last two days things have accellerated almost to the uncontrolled point in terms if the improvement projects. During the day dad decided to finish fixing the drop ceiling that had been partly removed to allow us to put in the egress window, put the kitchen closet bifold doors on and put the baseboards in. He didn't wake me til he started cutting with a powersaw... I kinda wish he had, so I could have helped.

Last night, I decided to fix the kitchen faucet. Not a big deal- easy job. Til I discovered one of the connector hoses was too short. And that the drainpiping was leaking and essentially shot. So, off to Maynerds (Menards) I went, picking up the stuff I needed plus the replacement ceiling tiles needed for [livejournal.com profile] ataramos's old room. It was a pretty fast fix from there on.

Today, dad stopped out to repair an outside faucet that we'd installed. It had decided not to work, and we now know why- It had frozen and burst, despite the guarantee that the design prevented that from happening. O well.

While he did that I cleaned out the last of the stuff in Ata's room, moving her chair and the DESK FROM HELL to the garage, the last with the help of [livejournal.com profile] foeclan, who stopped over briefly. He also kindly picked up teflon plumbers tape for dad when he ran to the store. :)

I then got a burr in my saddle about the old carpet. And decided to tear it out myself. UGH.
Hell of a job, that. But I'll now save over $100 cos they don't' need to yank the carpet now. Oh, that's right- the carpet arrives FRIDAY! Yay!

So, here's what's left- painting Ata's old room for [livejournal.com profile] khirsahdrgn, fixing the ceiling tiles, doing the drop ceiling in the downstairs kitchen (no hurry there, thankfully), stain and seal the closet doors, paint the trim on the stairs, clean the upstairs, pack the remaining things of Ata's into her current room, (die of exhaustion), And prep for the party, which is basically a lot of cooking.

WHEE!

... I'm tired, I ache, and I'm having a pizza, dammit. :P

The work in the basement approaches completion! I've started priming the new wallboard, and I should have it all painted by the end of the week. I have to put a bit more dirt in the bottom of the egress window and slope the bottom away from the house. After the kitchen is finally painted, there's only the shelves in the closet, the cabinet and microwave cabinet to install, the closet doors and the countertop on the new cabinet. All that's left in [livejournal.com profile] ataramos' old room is priming, painting and (hopefully) new carpet. I get to pay for that myself, yay. :P

That last comment is due to my parents deciding that they wanted to help me by recarpeting the upstairs instead of downstairs... I'd kinda prefer the reverse, but damn, I sure don't mind the upstairs getting done!

In other news- the day before Halloween (roughly), the washing machine began to act up, in that the spin cycle stopped working, thus leaving the clothes sopping wet. On Monday (the 7th) the serviceman came by and confirmed what I thought- it was toast. the driveshaft snapped, letting the normal wash cycles to work, but NOT the spin. So, I now have a new washing machine- a really nice, large capacity beast that my folks picked up for $350. It was originally priced at $750. Yay!

So things are going fairly well, for the most part. I go back to the allergist today, and will prolly be on a theraputic inhaler kindasorta permanently. O well. Not like I've not been in this position before.

Next week, on Wednesday I head to Midwest FurFest. Next Sunday, after the game I play in every other week, I'll start baking the cookies for the Tea Party. Woo! To all who are attending, see you there! (Tea Party- Thursday starting at 5 PM if all goes well- look for signs!)

More stuff

Last night I finally got [livejournal.com profile] ataramos's new room painted, barring a few minor touchups. Yay! I was going to start digging the hole for the new egress window, but it rained all night with a LOT of lightning, and is STILL raining now...

I also went to [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain and [livejournal.com profile] foeclan's housewarming- guys, thanks for the food and I'm sorry I left early- headache. :P It WAS a nice get-together tho. Oh- Dave? When you cleaned out the freezer, you took a bag of herbs that were in the freezer proper rather than in the door- those were mine. I need them back, and I'll be calling around 9 AM about them. I need them today for making dinner here!

Not a lot else going on at this point, other than me waiting for breakfast. Mmm. Pizza!
realsorien: (Default)
Well, the last few weeks have been kinda hectic... With [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain moving out, I'm in the process of shuffling the other roomies around to their new digs. To do that, several things have to happen. First, I have to prep Joshuwain's old room for [livejournal.com profile] ataramos by filling and sanding nailholes (done) and painting (NOT done). I also have to install an egress window in her old room (NOT done, and a lot more work than I wanna think about), which reall should have been installed a long time ago. In addition, I'll be doing little updates throughout the house, mostly painting and such, but there are a few larger projects too, like finishing thr kitchen area in the basement...

Oy.

But, on the the goodies. I just picked up some new cooking tools and toys- a new glass mixing bowl, two 8x8x2" pyrex baking pans, new flatware (12 each of knives, forks, spoons and tablespoons), a new hand-mixer (my old sunbeam bogs down in cake batter...) and a rice cooker. Yay! More clutter! ...Wait...

Thats all for now. I just worked a double shift, and I'm beat. :P
realsorien: (Default)
Well, its the week before Halloween, and all through the house, shit is piled and stacked and shifting like the drifting sands of the Sahara, but nowhere NEAR as attractively. (Sigh) The CLEANSING HATH BEGUN! Oy. I started today with the (EEYEWW!) Bathroom... Yuck. I'll finish in there today (Thursday) with the tub and vanity, then move on to scrubbing the kitchen floor. After that is the REAL fun- my bedroom and the back living room. [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain gets to do the front living room, the kitchen countertops and HIS room. The basement? Well, the Dwellers therein get to do what they do- its not really gonna be seen.

The bad part is I get to (finally) replace the bathroom faucet, probably tomorrow. blah. Lissen to me bitch! (giggle) Its in this teeny nightmarish space that I get to pretzelyze myself to reach. That, and I have to do the leaves in the yard, too. Gah.

Tons of cleanup, and a new roomie arrives friday. OOO! Money! (grin) That will DEFINITELY help.

Now to the good part- the party itself!

We've got about 20+ people coming. A usual mob for the yearly gathering, and we have the usual huge spread for 'em too- this year, the Halloween Party is combined with my traditional yearly Turkey Feed; because of MFF and the actual Thanksgiving holiday, the logistics of running a T-giving party in there as well was getting near-impossible for me.

The Menu so far: 21# roast Turkey, 6# bone-in Ham, a HUGE pot of mashed potatos, some other veggie to be determined, crusty bread, various beverages and of course, Pumpkin and Apple Pie! Whee! There will also be candy to swipe from the cauldronfull we use for the trick-or-treaters. :)

Mmmm. Death by gluttony... huhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuh...
