Well, next week is my birthday, and to celebrate I took the week off. So I get to loaf and be generally useless for nine days/nights. Woot. The only plans I have (so far) are to see Civil War and to game on Saturday and Sunday.

Other than that, we're close to the end of our time in the apartment. Chris is moving to just outside Green Bay, WI to live with our former roomie from the house, Anna, and I'll be moving with ANOTHER former roomie, Dave, in his house. The dates for our respective moves are slightly in the air, but he'll be mopving sometime in June, while I may be here through July and (if shit goes wrong) August.

I hate moving, but at the same time I hate paying way more than I should for what I'm getting. Especially since me alone in a two-bedroom apartment would just be too much. Other than that, life is life.

I got home from Midwest Furfest yesterday around 4 PM or so in generally good order. No item that I'm aware of has gone missing, and I had a pretty good time. We had the Pizza Shootout on Saturday around 12:30 PM, but we're waiting on one person's vote to determine who won. As we'll have one person abstaining, and it's currently tied with two people's remaining votes (including theirs) I think it should be considered a tie!

I only got two pieces of art this year- one from DarkNatasha (a badge) and one from Cara Mitten (of my character Arath in our Pathfinder game, which resumes a week from Saturday). As predicted, I spent more than I wanted to and most of that on food.

I met up with varied people, some who I knew and many I didn't, and I was able to sleep EVERY NIGHT OF THE CON. Woot! I slept well last night as well, and now I have to change back to my usual vampire pattern. I'm looking forward for next year. :)

Definitely next year I request a NON-TOWER room; bloody things are teeny.

To taking Greyhound to Furfest. I'll leave EARLY Wednesday the 16th, about 5:55 AM and I'll get back home early Tuesday morning, about 1 AM. Woot! I'm looking forward. Its a no-stop trip, and on one of the NEW buses, with the internet and power hookups. So I'll be able to futz on the computer all the way there and back.

I'm gonna try (HA!) to control my spending- as the big commission I was considering is lacking an artist (I was planning on commissioning DarkNatasha, but she can't attend), I think I'll try to get just two commissions, with the rest of my spending being food.

Also- we're about 2 weeks off my annual Halloween party! I'm doing it more potluck, so all I have to deal with is the bird, mashed potatoes and the cranberry sauce. I'm farming the rest out to other people. If you were invited in past years, you're invited this year. :)

FInally! An entry! This will be a general update cos I haven't posted in so bloody long!

Starting back in June... I attended a few days of Convergence, a local SF convention. I arrived on Thursday, and crashed out on the floor of [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain's room until it was time for his Dresden Files game. The game was fun, the con was fun and I'll probably be there at least a little next year.

On Sunday night, the 3rd, me and [livejournal.com profile] phineus went to fireworks at Lake Normandale. It was very nice (if INSANELY crowded), and for the first time in my life I actually saw lightning bugs. :)

Monday the fourth a bunch of us went to fireworks on the Stone Arch Bridge in Minneapolis. Very crowded again, but I was SERIOUSLY jazzed. I got video of some of it, but I took the shots weird and I have to find a way to rotate the images for display. :P [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain and his mom, [livejournal.com profile] feezlekahn and [livejournal.com profile] phineus were in attendance. Before the fireworks we had dinner at [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain's place, and the chicken-hot dogs were fantastic.

The rest of July, August and September were fairly uneventful, but I'm probably forgetting stuff. If I recall later, I'll add another post! October though... Something did happen. I, [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain, [livejournal.com profile] ataramos and [livejournal.com profile] feezlekahn went up to the North Shore of Lake Superior for a weekend. That was the 7th to the 9th. We stayed at the Viking Motel, a little flytrap motel I found on the Net. I liked it, but I'm fairly sure [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain wasn't thrilled. However, despite that it was a lot of fun. We hit Gooseberry Falls, Split Rock Lighthouse, Pallasaide Head, and a few other places, and ate at Betty's Pies and another place my brain isn't recalling the name of. I came back with pictures, which I still have to post, and a rock that is 1.1 BILLION years old. All in all, a good time.

This week has been mostly me lying around; I took three days off, two of which had nothing to do with the trip! I worked a total of two days this last week. Oh! Also, I've joined a MUD called Flexible Survival; it started as a SexMUD, but it's evolved rather oddly into Survival Adventure/Horror and Science Fiction. Its a blast. ;)

BWAH!

Okay- I got the hotel room locked down for MFF for Wednesday to Monday. I have 2 beds arranged, so woot. Now to confirm person #2, and to determine if anyone else will be in there with me beyond that. In other news, I got my state tax return on Tuesday, which is the fastest I've ever gotten it- I only filed on the 1st! Now I just have to figger out how I'll be getting there. I've heard that if I do the overnight run on Megabus its both low-ridership and cheap as dirt, so I'll be looking at that as well as the train, and maybe going by car as the last option.

This should be a good con- I'll have a bit more money than last year, especially if I try to sock a bit away in addition to the funds I'll have from the tax return. Woot!

Oh, and as a totally unrelated note to the roommates- I may have a bunch of 60 watt bulbs shortly, via the folks membership with on of the big warehouse stores- I can't recall if its Sams or the other one. I'll also have the long florescent bulbs. Not sure when, but likely before midweek next week.

Well, me and [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain got back into town about 1:30 or a bit after- we left at 6:55 AM, so we made slightly better time than the trip out. Initially, the plan was to head out at 9 AM, but I was feeling antsy and REALLY wanted to go home. Also, I'd found a goof in my bank balance and needed to get to TCF to straighten it out. As it turns out it was caused by the teeny print on the TCF website being misread by my crappy myopic eyes on Wednesday when I paid the Discover card- I thought it was at 284, when it was at 204... Oops. No real damage though, I beat the posting of the thing that would have nuked me, and got cash in. Whew! I'll note that I would have been screwed if we'd waited. Thanks for being willing to bail early, Dave!

In general the con was a lot of fun. However, I didn't get my sleep schedule switched around, so I was getting tired and sleeping at really inconvenient times. Also, I didn't really get crap don on my writing- 700 words before we left today plus chapter 19 was it. Under 2000 all told. I have a LOT of catch-up to do!

I got three sketches- One from Shauntae Howard of Rabbit/Phooka, one from DarkNatasha of Savannah, and one of Sorien/lamia. I'll try to get them scanned and posted on FA soon. And that was MFF for this year- its good to be home!

I DID get rid of the headache, finally. All it took was more Ibuprofin, food and about 8 cups of strong tea. The incredible steak sandwich I had certainly didn't hurt! In the sports bar they have here, called 'Red', they have a small menu but what's on it... OhmyfuckingGod is it good. The steak sandwich was easily worth the $16. Oh- While the service was slow to get to me (there was a mixed mob of Furries and businesspeople almost to standing-room-only), once they DID get the order it got to me fast. The kitchen area is just off to the side, and if you wanted to you could watch the prep. The bar is well-stocked, and I'm highly tempted to try a few less common things... At least less common to me, like various mixed drinks.

While I feel fine now, I didn't sleep worth a damn. I did get SOME sleep, just... Fitful. Not too-much-caffeine fitful, but brain-won't-shut-up fitful. I think I'll be writing today at some point. :)

Right now I'm waiting on [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain, whom I'm splitting the room with ([livejournal.com profile] feezlekahn is here too), and we'll probably get breakfast.

Okay, I'm here. Rome 316. I've had a headache all day, and I napped for a while hoping it would go away... No such luck. It was caused by lack of sleep + no caffeine + neckstrain, and I didn't take anything for it when I first felt it, so it dug in like a tick.

I'll be okay, but I'm not up for much. I'm going to go down and see if I can't get my registration packet, then maybe yap on a MUCK for a while, maybe get a snack or something.

(Sigh) No writing today, mostly due to prep for the con. We leave for Midwest Furfest around 6 AM this morning, and I should probably get some sleep. The cookies are done and packed up, my stuff likewise other than toiletries and closing up the suitcase. I'll post as usual from the con- Its a weird year- There'll be more than one person still at home this year! I guess that's good and bad.

I guess that's it.

Bleh,,,

I didn't get any writing done yesterday or (yet) today. I tried, but I just stared at the laptop with no idea where to go. I'm safe- plenty of time after all given I'm over 42k words, but its still frustrating. Oh well. I WILL get some done today, just not this morning. I'll read a while more and crash soonish.

I've got the laundry done, so I just have packing and baking left before the trip. We leave around 6 AM Thursday. I should probably get a few things yet from the store, and I'll print out a 'to do' list for the cat care while I'm gone.

Woot, I say. SO the plan is (Maybe) Zombieland tonight, the Carpenter Nature Center on Saturday, and the Sunday Group gaming on (duh) Sunday. Last night I got the short story to over 2500 words, with a goal of 5500-6000. I may finish it tonight if I feel like it. Right now its pop-tarts and unwinding before bed!

Riting!

I'm still banging the ideas for the novel in my head and on the computer, but tonight I decided to take a break from reading the Bible as research; if I'd not taken the break I think I would have either dropped into a coma or started killing people with a pickaxe- even odds of either. Instead, between rounds and such I was rereading 'The Dark Sleep' by P.N. Elrod.

At least til about 4 AM, when an idea started bugging me. I started banging it out, and I've about 1000 words down as I type this. It's a tale (origin really) of a character that'll be minor in the first story (so far) and maybe major in later ones. He's a Russian with the gift of flame-projection and relater powers. I get to play with Imperial Russia in the tale. So far I like what I've got. :)

Beyond that, I have a long weekend upcoming, and the plan is to do the Carpenter Nature Center on Saturday, and the usual Sunday Game on Sunday. Four days off. Woot!
realsorien: (Default)
A good question. I'm sleeping again, though still a bit less than I'd like. I've gotten the (long overdue) last Horror writeup done, as well as the latest Desert World writeup. I've also gotten the lion's share of the art and photography uploaded to FurAffinity ( http://www.furaffinity.net/user/sorien/ ), though I still have two posts here on LJ to fix the links on and about 20 or so photos left to upload. But I'm close!

What comes next writing wise is the next of the three short stories for the preliminaries for my novel-attempt. I'll admit I'm kinda hitting the wall, but once I get moving on things I think it'll be easier. Other than that I really ought to clean the house, of which one duty will be tearing down the Goddamned Desk(tm) in the front room and dragging its carcass out back for the trash to take. I never should have gotten it- its too damn big and just kinda sits there, eating the front room.

Beyond that, There is a plan afoot to go to the Carpenter Nature Center on October 9. It'll be from 10 to 5, and I've put in for some time off so I don't have to worry about sleep and such. Hopefully I'll get some good pictures. After that is the Halloween Party on the 31st, then Midwest Furfest. Woo!

Got back from the con last night at about 11 PM. The trip was uneventful, aside from the idiot taxi driver dropping me at the wrong station (the Amtrak/Metra station is in Glenview, and the station he dropped me at, just a Metra station, was down the track in the VILLAGE of Glenview). Fortunately, it was right on the line and taking a single stop trip on the Metra fixed things. It was STILL stupid. For future reference: Get the cab number, the driver's name, and note pickup/dropoff times so that they can track the mistake and not do it again!

Anyway, I got home. Cleaned up the mess of dishes in the kitchen, refilled the dry food bowls and water for the cats, and relaxed. Whuf. The con was a lot of fun, but I'm glad to be home.

Which brings us to today.

The house is now using Comcast for phone, internet and cable! Qworst has been told to fuck off with details why, and all that's left is sending the modem back and switching my Visi account (my former provider) to a basic dialup account to maintain my email and (horribly out of date) website.

WE KAN HAZ INTERNETZ! :)

Other than that, I have a headache. I'll live, and things seem generally good. I go back to work tonight, whoopie, but I only work two nights this week.
realsorien: (Default)
But it'll be back in 2010! It'll be at the Hyatt O'Hare, which is fucking HUGE. There is no need for an overflow hotel its so huge! Woot! Bad side is that it doesn't have a lot of real close food. But the massive convenience otherwise is gonna be great.

I had a good time, and the charity brought in over $12,000 after the con-donation. Nice!

I'll be in my room tonight, and at 8 PM or a bit after I'll have the new Star Trek movie in. If you're at the con and reading this, we can watch movies and eat pizza. :) Room 1027!

Oh- I head home tomorrow. I need to be at the Glenview station, and I wanna get there by 1:30. The train will pick me up at 2:39, and I should be back in the cities by 10:30. The ride home from there is arranged.

Okay, here's the sort-of lowdown.

I arrived on Wednesday, having had a nice quiet trip on the train. The only part of the trip that was bad was that my left knee started hurting for no apparent reason- o well. The transfer from the Empire Builder to the Metra was pretty smooth, and I got the hotel shuttle with no problems. Of course, it isn't a vacation without some form of snafu.

In this case, they tried to give me a single-bed rather than two beds. I got ahold of [livejournal.com profile] takaza, and with his help and my original confirmation email it got straightened out. I spent some time wandering around, helped bag the registration packages, had dinner at RAM and collapsed somewhere around 11 PM. Not exactly in that order, but whatever.

Thursday was when the Ravening Horde started to arrive, and I spent time chatting with people and generally just being here. Thursday never has much going on, but I did get my registration. I had breakfast at the hotel ($11 buffet! Woot!) and dinner with [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain at RAM. We got comp'd an appetizer plate by the manager- woot again! Free food for the win!

Nina from Altered Realities arrived while we were out eating, and the prearranged pickup for his room key was no problem. I got ahold of [livejournal.com profile] mirrdae and arranged to get the donation cookies from him on Friday morning, and once again crashed around 11 or so.

Friday was the actual start of the con, and things were good. Breakfast buffet again, and some chatting and waiting til things opened up. I have a pic being done by Jen "Spunky" Seng of Hybrid, a possible supers concept, and Shauntae Howard is doing a pic of Deyn from the Traveller campaign. I'll be getting a pic of the snakewoman character I've got from DarkNatasha this morning; she's fiddling with the facial structure to get it to work too.

Last night I got together with [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain again, ending up with him in a room with varied friends- some I knew, some I didn't. But I had a few bheers and a slug of something vile- 'Southern Sweet Tea' or some such. All I know was this shit tasted like Vicks Formula 44. O.o In any case, I had a touch too much, and the pair of us left the gathering. WHile I sobered up we sought a restaurant for dinner- Buca De Beppo was the result, and the spaghetti and meatballs was excellent.

I spent some time talking with [livejournal.com profile] itico, and eventually got to bed somewhere around midnight.

And that brings us to today. I'll report on that later. ;)
realsorien: (Default)
Because He created Morning. :P

I hate morning. Bleah.

But, my slow-ass waking process aside, I DID actually manage to sleep past 5 AM! For me at-con, this is a GOOD thing. Now if I can keep that up for the rest of the vacation...

One nice thing- the con-rate for the breakfast buffet is already in effect. :)
realsorien: (Default)
Okay, changed the travel plans to the convention for next week. Instead of going to Milwaukee and riding with [livejournal.com profile] bluedeer to the hotel, I'm coming into Glenview, IL. Its about 20 miles from the hotel, so no matter which way I take to the hotel from there, it'll be affordable. The difference in ticket price? Nine bucks. :)

So I've posted to the [livejournal.com profile] midwestfurfest LJ for a ride to the hotel from the station. In any event, I don't have to stress at all now.

MFF Stuff.

The train tickets are set up, the room was reserved LONG ago, my time off is approved and rides to and from the train station(s) are (for the most part) arranged. Woot!

I'm in the main hotel, with three others at this time. See you all there!
realsorien: (Default)
So far I've done very little, which was the plan for the most part. Tonight I'm going to make chicken and mashed potatoes for myself and some others, and sometime today or tomorrow I may run out to Uncle Hugo's to check out the 'Additional 10% Off' Sale that happens to be on. I also should pick up comics...

Other than that, not much is up. I made a chocolate cake the other day, and me and [livejournal.com profile] ataramos have been decimating it ever since. I think there might be a quarter of it left, if that. Today, the cable guys were out, as we were having some weird issues- they changed out the connector outside and gave us a new box, and noted several things that needed to be fixed due to wiring codes outside- That won't cost anything, it just needs fixing. :) The bad part of this is that all the stuff that was recorded in the OLD box is now gone. At least the problem is fixed. I think.

Sometime before Saturday I'm going to start writing up the next Traveller run, and for those in the Sunday Group who actually check this out, I may have a surprise on Sunday!
