First, I still think the best Charlie Daniel's Band song is 'Uneasy Rider'. ;)

On to other things. Tomorrow we return to the Horror Campaign, and the terrors and travails of Our Heroes. I'm WAY behind on writeups, but at least I'm only back one for Horror. I'll be loaning my Dresden Files gamebooks to Scotty so he can look 'em over, and I suspect that we might get a game-shift out of this- time will tell.

As to my OWN game, work continues. I've gotten the basics down for the adventure, and all of the city NPC's that I needed roughed out. I should have a vague map of the city, but I can fake that. In the adventure I've started the sorting out of what monsters are where and what they all have, as well as getting the experience listings set. I need a printer badly, soon.

Other than that, life continues. I cheated today for sleep, taking a couple of cold caps- I DID sleep, but I dislike the aftereffects- muzziness and waking even slower than I usually do. But I did sleep. Woot!

Now all that remains is actually finding my way to Scotty's new place in Eagan. ;)

I realized sometime yesterday that I had a HUGE flaw in my first adventure- why the frak is this crap happening in the first place? There has to be a reason, after all, and 'just because' ain't gonna cut it. So last night at work I sat down and tried to puzzle it out, and viola, I kan haz backstory! I know what happened why and where, who to and what came out of it now, and I also know more about exactly what my PC's will be facing. Woot!

I've also thought a bit more on magic and treasure- I think I know how I'll deal with the initial magic the PC's will have (starting out at 3rd level they WILL have some stuff), and I think I know who three of my PC's are for sure. I have to get answers from some others, but we'll see what comes of my plan for a mixed Saturday Group / Sunday Group party.

In other news, I made spaghetti and meatballs for me and [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain yesterday, and I have a snack-level amount left for later today. We yakked about the game some, and that is partly what got me thinking on some of this stuff.

Also, I'm getting a shift of overtime this week, which will appear on my next check (next Friday), which will help finish off some bills. I also got my birthday gift from the folks- my train fare to Midwest Furfest is paid, so I'll get the tickets later today. They're also covering the taxi fare from and to Union Station.

I may also get more overtime next week- there's a hole in the schedule that needs filling.

What's left for the game? finishing the roughs for the encounters, getting the monsters charted out, doing the same for the loot and experience, and some polish work on the world and city. Oh, and I suppose I really ought to stat out the major NPC's as well

Okay, so my weekend actually is Friday and Saturday nights, but still. On Thursday I had a CEU class for work instead of my normal shift, so I was up all day at that instead of asleep. I crashed when I got home, getting up about four hours later. I ended up crashing early again that night (for me), around 4 AM or so. Friday was quiet, til the evening when I, [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain, [livejournal.com profile] foeclan and [livejournal.com profile] feezlekahn all did a little shopping run to two of the Half Price Books stores, Best Buy and a little used DVD place. I struck out on what I was after (the True Blood first two seasons sets), but I did get 'Cronkite Remembers', which is a autobiographical series by Unka Walt himself. It was ten bucks, so hey. I already have my folks wanting to borrow it! Oh- I DID find what I wanted online after, for the price I was limiting myself to- woot.

Also that night we ate at a little hole in the wall called 'Jimbos'. Its an ancient little dive restaurant off highway 10 in Blaine, that I always saw while I grew up. Never ate there before now, but I liked it- good, if not five-star food. The marinera was too sweet for me, but it was cheap and filling.

After all that, groceries were purchased and people headed for home. I once again crashed early, forgetting to make the Swedish meatballs for the game on Saturday. Fortunately, I woke with plenty of time to get 'em done. three pounds of meatballs went over well and were gone save for two!

The game, a Dresden Files short (test?) run, was a blast, It was the last run of the limited run, so the Saturday group is now going back to the Skylands campaign, which I'm not in.

Sunday was for the most part quiet, save that whilst I was holding Spaz, he freaked out for some reason and ripped my face pretty nastily. Its not actually that bad, but it looks like I was in a fight. I think he's gonna go to the vet to see about kitty-Ritalin or something else- he's WAY too strung, all the time, and I'm tired of his chasing Lady.

And now, I'm off to work. Bleah.

Hokay Den!

Well, now that the funds fully cleared into my bank account I've made the monster payment to Discover, which was just under a grand. Ouch. Regardless, I needed to do it. I've indulged myself with some books and such as well, and I've got a goodly chunk of cash set aside for my trip to MFF in November- part of that gets here in August I think, with the property tax return. I'm still waiting on whether or not I have the right stop for Amtrak or not- if they don't get back to me tonight I'll send a couple more emails out and recheck the site. I vaguely recall last year they had the info posted.

This Friday is payday, and of course more bills. The mortgage payment goes out then, as well as the electric bill and cable- I'm essentially all caught up. Woot!

Thursday, in other news, I'm doing required training for work- as a security guard I have to get at least 6 hours of training every year (Oh so onerous, I know!) I just wish it wouldn't fark up my schedule. Training is dayside, of course, and they won't let me work the night before anymore- which is stupid, cos I'll be up anyway to try and keep my sleep schedule at least partly straight. I hate stupid people.

Saturday will likely be the last run of the temporary Dresden game. Whether it is or not things are set up that if [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain wants to continue he can, as can any other player that decides to run the city we came up with. I really hope the world continues on either way- its a blast. :)

Today and the next few days I plan to try and get caught up on the damned game writeups. First up will be the two Dresden runs, then the most recent Buffy Horror for the Sunday Group (even though the next run is a month from now- Easter intervenes), and finally the two Western Campaign runs. Somewhere in there I'll also finish the stories I wrote for the Dresden game and also try to work on the other short stories I've started. Agh!

And that's about it, I think. Now all I need is a lottery win!

My brother dropped off the snow blower tonight- he and dad rebuilt the carbuerator and cleaned everything out, so it should run fine now. He blew out the bit of the back that wasn't done and it didn't choke or stall once, so I have hopes! I also found out the gearing DOES work, so it'll be easier to get it around front if I need to.

In other news, I have tonight off! Woot! For my evening, I shall sit around and do very little, though I'll get the kitchen cleaned up some and maybe start packing up the paperbacks that currently form strange pillars and mounds in my room. ;)

As to the Xmas stuff, 2 1/2 still en route in the mail. At least none of them need to be here by the 24th! One or two should get here tomorrow at least.
realsorien: (Default)
We got a LOT of white stuff as you who follow the weather may have noticed. However, it is NOT snow as is commonly believed. This is slushie mix. Thick, heavy, WET slushy mix. All it needs is flavorings and we could open a franchise. :P

I just got the front dug out, and I'm about to make dinner. I'm going to try to get some writing done before work, but given my asthma decided to hire linebackers to kick my ass, I'm not sure if I will. I might fall asleep after I eat for a while.

In any event, the roof is still not fixed, and while I think it'll be okay, that paranoia is lurking in the background. It might have been done by now, but I talked to my dad and he was going to contact the fella that did HIS roof, who would deal with the insurance and all that crap for me as part of the deal. However... Dad forgot and went hunting. He's now in a cabin up north and there's no way to contact him. Feh.

Beyond that, I'll get groceries after work in the morning, and I've only three days til I'm on vacation!

Okay...

SO far I've done about 1600 words today. I would have done more, but right after my round last night I started feeling pretty terrible. Regardless, I'll get the remaining 1400 words of my daily goal done later today, and I'll post the next section then too.

In other news, still NO news on the desk I might or might not be getting from work. It will replace the Damned Desk(tm) out front, and is a far more managable size. I'm also kinda looking for another loveseat or hide-a-bed for a good price (like, FREE) for the front room.

(edit) Oh! I forgot. I voted right after work. Get out there and vote!
realsorien: (Default)
Was up and down as previously mentioned. I go back to work tonight, and I'm still sick. I'm fairly sure I can go in, but I'm NOT gonna like it. The game on Sunday went well- I brought hamburger and buns and Our Gracious Hosts cooked it up for us all. Yay, I didn't have to cook! Anyway, I had a good time, but it would have been better if I'd not had such hellish drainage. :P

I slept from about 5 am til noon kinda fitfully, and if I need it I'll go back to bed. [livejournal.com profile] ataramos, if you see this, call home- you got a letter that might be important concerning healthcare! And that's about it. Back to work tonight, but at least its only three days this week. Oh- All the stuff I ordered has shipped, so with luck I should have the books by Wednesday, and the trackballs by Friday.
realsorien: (Default)
I'm at the headquarters of my work for training. CPR/AED stuff. I have to have 6 hours of training a year, and as the CPR cert. expires yearly, that's what I get. I could take Verbal Judo (an utterly stupid course because they give ONE solution with very little in the way of variable situations) or Bloodbourne pathogens, or one or two other totally useless classes.

So, I'm here til 3:30. We started at 8:30, and we're on the lunch break. Thus, my net-presence.

At least this time I got sleep beforehand- I just hope it doesn't mess up my schedule like usual.

I took a few more pics last night, this time from the roof of the Roanoke Building at work, in downtown Minneapolis. Roanoke is 12 stories tall, and is rather dwarfed by the surrounding towers.

Seven Days

Mostly this is just an update as to whats been up for the last week. Exciting, eh? But here goes. :)

The 7th to Today )
realsorien: (Default)
We'll start with the good. Last night we had a small movie party, watching one truly atrocious film called Vampires Vs. Zombies, followed by the short feature on the same disc called 'Heads Are Gonna Roll', and rounded out by the palate-cleansing Dr. Horrible's Musical Blog. Attending were myself, [livejournal.com profile] zxizaraxii, [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain, [livejournal.com profile] khirsahdrgn, [livejournal.com profile] mirrdae and [livejournal.com profile] feezlekahn. [livejournal.com profile] ataramos joined in on the food but didn't watch the show.

[livejournal.com profile] joshuwain made spaghetti sauce, which was combined with the requisite pasta and browned cubed sirloin to round out the meal, mozzarella and parmesan cheese being available as well as good chewy french bread. I made the sirloin, which was simply cubed, breaded with seasoned flour and fried.

It was a good evening, and at this point the cleanup is pretty much done. The plan is to do this more often, whether with a meal or just snackage.

Other than that, I got the tree down and packed away.

Now, the bad. At work we've been til now able to 'cheat' and bring in computers and such, and we abused the privilege by connecting to the internet. Now this would have been tolerable IF my coworkers had a single clue as to what they were doing. Apparently, someone managed to knock the entire net-connection for the Comm Center off line for the entire day today. So, the bosses know of the misdeeds of the guards now, and ALL privileges have been revoked. No computers in the office, no books, no nothing. Which means people falling asleep is going to increase exponentially. It also means that I'm going to start looking for another account, as without at least something vaguely 'nice' available, it's a hellhole.

I admit that this is partially my fault. I was stupid enough to listen to coworkers, INCLUDING one of the supervisors, who said that 'as long as we're surreptitious, no problem'. Well, now its a problem. At least I can honestly say that I wasn't a cause of the disaster, just a participant in misdeeds.

So this means I'll not be online for the foreseeable future from work, and it also means I'll likely not be doing much in terms of writing either, at least til I work out how to focus on it here at home with all the distractions here.

Am I complaining? Nope. We fucked up. No doubt. But I'm also not staying at Baker if I can help it. I've worked night shift long enough to KNOW you have to have something to keep you going. Even if its just a little music or a magazine or whatever. Maybe I'll try to get back in at Riverplace- no internet, but I'd be able to have the laptop. And tunes for that matter. I'll check into it on Monday after my shift. I may call Riverplace and talk to the supervisor there and see if they need someone too, today. We'll see what happens.
realsorien: (Default)
Well, my manager said after he came in last night to fill in for the sickie that I'd have to fill in on the Friday morning shift (Now, that is) if my coworker called in sick again. He also said that he'd call to let me know either way.

Right.

What ACTUALLY happened was they apparently called and left messages on my nonfunctional answering machine, and assumed that doing that somehow guaranteed that I'd magically show up. SOP in any situation like this, anywhere that I've heard of anyway, is that you do NOT assume that leaving a message is good enough, and you HAVE to get a direct response from the person in question. Well, he apparently doesn't know this, and allowed a subordinate to call and, with the leaving of a message, assumed I'd agreed.

I hadn't, and I never got ANY message.

So, at ten after midnight I get a call from the second shift office. "Aren't you coming in?" I ended up talking to my manager, who was pissed that I didn't magically bend to his desires. I agreed to come in, but not being willing to take the bullshit and grief of him trying to pin this shit on me, I called the Area Manager, who essentially said that I was right, the manageer was wrong, and could I please help by showing up?

I said I would, but that I didn't want to take grief from my manager. He said he'd be talking with him in the morning. I actually feel for this guy, as he's only been Area Manager for a month- and to top it off he'd been dropped in a figurative shitstorm of problems, my situation only being the most recent.

So I'm at work, pissed off and likely to be even MORE pissed when the manager gets in and tries to light into me for all of this.

It is NOT my fault my coworker got sick. He shouldn't have been made to work that night in the first place! It isn't my fault that they made a stupid assumption that I'd be in, either.

I reiterate once again, I HATE STUPID PEOPLE.
realsorien: (Default)
Well. I got to work on time as usual, as did my coworker. He stated to me that he'd tried to call off-duty due to illness, but was told that there was nobody to cover the shift, and thus he came in. He went off to do his thing, and I took my post in Ops. Eventually, it was my time to do a round, and so he came back and I went off.

When I got back I stopped in the bathroom to answer the call of nature, and noticed an odor. "Gee," I thought. "It smells like puke in here!" I went back to the office, finding the coworker there flushed and visibly sick. "You okay?" I asked. He shook his head no and mumbled. "Did you throw up?" He nodded yes to this. "You're going home. I'll call someone." In the end, I got the supervisor in and he went home, hopefully to recover. I did all of his rounds on top of mine, and I may 'have' to work the overnight tonight if he doesn't make it in.

And we're being yelled at by the home office for too much overtime- notably, they haven't done fuck-all to fill the open shifts we've had for months, and they've not bothered to get more floats trained at the account.

I hate stupid people and their stupid policies. This is why when I call in sick, I say "I won't be in." Rather than "I don't think I can make it in tonight." I ain't giving them weasel-room anymore.

Party Stuff

Jan. 4th, 2009 05:18 am
realsorien: (Default)
Well, I think the party went quite well, other than a few snafu's (I ran out of flour for the dredge for the chicken, and needed to get salt for the walk and had to run out to get both, and several people didn't show up)- I think a good time was had by all, and I made WAY too much chicken! I foisted some off on attendees and the rest I've been eating along with the leftover mashed potatoes. Giftage was distributed and received, and much appreciated- I did get a couple doubles of things I already had, but that was entirely MY fault- I checked the lists I put out and sure enough I'd listed them. I won't say which were doubles tho! So, I'll head over to the stores, maybe today, and exchange them for stuff I don't have. But I STILL appreciate what I got, a lot. :) Thanks to all who showed up, and I hope you had as good a time as I did- I might not have looked it, but I DID enjoy the night. I was just REAL fried from lack of sleep, which condition was rectified afterwards, BIG time.

What happened is this. After the party I dozed in my new chair, crashing HARD for about 3 hours. I then got up and MUCKed about a bit, finally going to bed at about 5:30. I finally woke at 6 PM, having been utterly dead to the world for 12 1/2 hours! I MUCKed a bit more, then ended up napping for a few more hours before work, which is where I am now. So sleep is NOT something I'm low on now!

Anyway, it was a good party, though I don't think I ever wanna do that much chicken again! Next year... Something else!

One last thing- I'm now five or six pages into the latest Buffy Horror writeup! It'll be done prolly tomorrow night. :)

Oh, [livejournal.com profile] brellchild, [livejournal.com profile] danshrugs, Mike T and Ian H.- There are gifts waiting for you!
realsorien: (Default)
Talk on the MUCK (Altered Realities- ar.squeep.com port 8888) came in one way or the other to food. Specifically the mention of beef roast. This stuck the desire for beef sandwiches in my head. So, after work I swung by Cub Foods and hit the deli counter for a pound of sliced beef. I also got a bag of 6 hard rolls and a ball of mozzarella cheese. I buttered two of the buns, fried the beef in olive oil to warm it up, and put it in the buns with the mozzarella. MMmmmm. :)

The rest of the meal was potato chips and a beer. Yay beer!
realsorien: (Default)
Once again the dryer is out. Its not producing heat, though it is running otherwise. I was notified of this yesterday, and I made the repair-date with Minnegasco/Reliant Energy today. They'll be here Monday unless I luck out and get bumped to Saturday. O well. Of course, this means I get to go with what clothes I have clean right now, unless I wanna pay through the nose to use the laundromat. Or go to [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain's house, or mom and dads. Bleh.

Second, I STILL don't know if the situation with Discover is resolved. I'll have to make some calls today.

Other than that and a minor asthma attack caused by the cold, Life is.
realsorien: (Default)
So after a short nap I cleaned up and headed in, only to find out that the two extra days of vacation I'd requested when I learned I still had days I needed to burn, that had been turned down, had apparently been approved! Thus, I am now at home instead of work, and I'm just heartbroken. ;)

Anyway, other than that, here's the Monday convention report. Mostly it was me saying goodbye to a few people, taking a $70 (OUCH)taxi ride to Union Station, a relaxing trainride back and [livejournal.com profile] ataramos picking me up at the depot. All told it was a good con, and I'm preregistered for next year. I'd have my reservation in with the hotel already, but the MFF folks want people to hold off as there are still details being worked out on the room block being allocated. I'm betting they're increasing the sise of the block, and working on things like discounts on the internet and such.

On that, here's hoping.

Fortunately, there are better plans in store for next year's trip. The plan as it stands is that I'll take the train to Milwaukee where [livejournal.com profile] bluedeer will pick me up. From there we'll drive to the hotel, which is about an hour. We'll split the room cost, and I'll kick som gas money to him. MUCH cheaper than this year.

Like as not I'll not be doing anything for Thanksgiving. The folks don't have anything planned (other than going to the neighbors for a Thanksgiving Lunch/Dinner), so I may beg off running out there. I'm going to start figuring out what I'm getting people for Xmas, and what I'd like to get as well.

Heh. Its kinda nice- I REALLY didn't wanna work tonight.
realsorien: (Default)
I may have found where things went wrong. There's a $6.00 payment that I apparently didn't write down. In combination with me mistaking another amount, this MIGHT have been the trigger for the NSF's. I'll talk to the bank later when I get home.

I'll also talk with the boss at Baker and Payroll to sort out the missing 24 hours of pay as well- hopefully I'll get that back before the end of the week. I'll ask Dad to pay half of the car insurance to get that dealt with, and pay him back later this week after I've settled as much of this as I can.

I get to talk to:

The bank (to clear some of the NSF charges and find out what that $6.00 was for, and confirm what another of the NSF-affected charges was)

Work (Payroll and my boss at Baker for the 24 hours of missing pay)

Discover Card (To tell them that there will be a delay in my paying them

Dad (for the insurance payment)

Countrywide Mortgage (To get some numbers on a Refi)

Roomies (several things)

No I'm NOT selling the house. Not yet at least. I figure that I'll have it at least another 18 months. I think it'll be at least that long before the housing market is truly stable... But I think I can get some of this resolved asap. At least I hope so.
realsorien: (Default)
Okay. I'm at work right now and I've mostly finished the work-related duty I was putting all month. I've also gotten a start on the 7th Sea writeup, and I'll definitely have it done by the weekend, likely by Thursday. Projectwise, here's what's left:

Clean, vacuum and organize my bedroom and the back room.

Paint the garage doors.

Prime and paint the windowframes (delayed til I know what the hell we're doing exactly).

Clean the kitchen, sweep and mop the floor and organize things a bit better.

Mow the lawn and deal with the yardwaste (cut branches and such that need to be bagged for the city to take 'em).

Anything else that pops up.

Once I get going on them the garage doors will only be a few hours work at most. The windows will be a bit more, but only because we'll have to mask around the areas to be painted. The kitchen will probably be the last thing on the list done, and I will probably do the mowing and yardwork this week sometime, I just don't know when. This could change if the ambition burns out again.

As to the car... It turns out that the back brakes had a problem, and the front tie-rods were shot- the tie rods are fixed, and the brakes may also be done by now. If they are I'll have my car back tomorrow. If not, Wednesday or later in the week.

This evening I'll be making fried chicken thighs and mashed potatoes. [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain? I don't need you to get chicken or buttermilk (I'll be getting those in the morning), but if you could pick up a couple packets of knorr chicken gravy and some french or italian bread that would be cool, if you and [livejournal.com profile] feezlekahn are planning to be over for the food. I know that [livejournal.com profile] foeclan won't be there, and [livejournal.com profile] mirrdae will also be absent for his martial arts class. Maybe see you then!
