To Those Who Have Come Before...

Was my toast this Monday evening at the Mike & Heather's Samhain gathering. It was a nice evening, with a VERY good bison (!) stew and fantastic home-brewed beer. I and ataramos attended, staying significantly longer than planned cos it was nice sitting about the fire, with songs and talk. It was a potluck, and my offering was a large batch of just-made peanut-butter cookies. Most were gone by the end of the evening. Yay!

Amy L. and the boys were there early on, but had to leave as the kids have school tomorrow; Scott L. arrived late as he'd had to work. But he got what was left of the cookies so I think it worked out. :)

I plan to attend the next of these gatherings, tho I plan to indulge less in the beer- Five is too many, Four and no more is the new rule. :)

To Mike and Heather, if they see this- thank you VERY much for a lovely evening. The stew and the beer were wonderful, and of course, FIRE GOOD!

Okay then...

I just got back from voting, with ataramos and zxizaraxii. I'm going to bed now, but first, this message:

If more of the people of the U.S. would actually take the 5 minutes or so it takes to vote, maybe we'd not be in the mess we're in now.

Just a bit of anger here...

You know, I made a response to something nauta said in response to joshuwain's admittedly over-the-top initial posting about voting... And since I put it up I've been thinking about it. And getting rather more irritated.

You see, we in the States vote for higher state offices and federal positions once every two years. If you count the primary votes, that means we have the right and opportunity to express our position and opinions on our leadership every two years, and can cause things to change of whatever is currently being done displeases us.

In actuality, less than half of the population actually expresses that right and opportunity.

Its ONE OR TWO FUCKING HOURS (at most!) EVERY TWO FUCKING YEARS. WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM?

I see exactly four reasons for not voting. Apathy, Stupidity, Age and Being incapable due to a medical situation. Only the last two are an excuse.

Or are you all happy letting other assholes decide what your world will be like?

And to the rest of the world. We who actually vote here are sorry that our system is fucked up by people who don't seem to give a damn. And I apoligise to friends whom don't vote that I'm pissing off here, but goddamn it, this IS important!
