Here's the latest writeup, once again at almost the last minute!
It's also probably the shortest writeup to date.
Last time we left off just after the advent of St. Charles; his arrival creating massive tension between some of the roommates, and setting the brains of Jackie and Ariel awhirl; he has gone to fetch his gear for his stay at the dormhouse, required for the restoration of the wards. Greg’s meeting with the mysterious voice in his head has been nixed by Papa Poulte, and things have wound down for the night. One revelation that weighs on the group is that Ray may be a member or associate of the MIB. The time we return to Our Heroes is around 7 PM that same night.
The ‘adults’ have gone, leaving the roommates to do their own things. Greg retreats to his room with Ariel, and the pair discuss the Anasazi way of life. Ariel explains what she can of how the community she was from worked. They pretend to be ‘hippie communes’ and are generally unmolested; however, those, human or otherwise, who DO molest them are rarely seen again. The Anasazi view humans as simply genetic material for their furtherance, and there was a debate between her mother and grandmother over Greg having been left alive. As grandma would say, “He’s just genetic material! Why do you care for him?”
After she finishes, Greg gets a turn telling Ariel about human customs. As he answers her questions, he spots the fact that she’s fishing for more and more knowledge about human sexuality... She’s being VERY subtle, but Greg does detect it. He confronts her with this and she tries to demur, but he basically puts it on the line that he’ll tell her what she wants to know. However, he doesn’t want her to go forward without her mother’s approval. She comes back with the ‘this is a ‘do as I say not do as I do’ argument, given his background. He makes a fantastic recovery and uses the concept of the clan against her, shifting it so that her argument is moot.
Then... She comes back with the truth. “Dad, you’re missing the point; I don’t want to breed. I want to FUCK.” Greg blinks, then approves, with the caveat that she can’t kill her partners! “Would I do that?” she says, and he just looks at her. Eventually, she goes into the bathroom to change... To go out. The talk continues, and he discovers that ALL of the people n the house ‘smell funny’. Except Roy, who ‘smells like meat.’
As it turns out, she’s not going far. She goes to Jackie’s room to wait for St. Charles! Jackie is still in there, and is surprised when Ariel walks in! “Hi?” She says. “Hi.” Jackie can tell exactly what Ariel is planning. “Is Greg okay with this?” “Yup!” Is the reply. Jackie nods dubiously, gathers what she’ll need for the night, and exits. She checks on Greg and confirms the story, then goes downstairs.
Bill sees Jackie come down, going into Michael’s room with a bit of a smirk. He has a bad feeling about this, and moves to look upstairs. Before he gets there he sees Greg come down and sit on the stairs! Greg has a slightly stunned, uncomfortable look on his face. Raising an eyebrow, Bill looks upstairs, looks back at Michael’s room and then at Greg and says questioningly, “St. Charles?” But Greg has a DIFFERENT thought go through his mind: “Dad is going to kill ME, HER, and a good dozen more to even the score!” He BOLTS upstairs, and tells Ariel, who he finds totally naked and spread out on Jackie’s bed! “No. NOT St. Michael. Please.” He says. “Why?” She asks, surprised at her father’s change of heart. Greg, slightly pale says, “Grampa will kill us both!” Ariel nods, seeing the truth of the statement. “Okay. Who?” Not really having an answer, Greg says, “I dunno, Roy?” “Okay.” She gets up, leaving Greg even more stunned as his suggestion hadn’t been serious. She crosses to Roy’s room, opens the door and literally JUMPS Roy on his bed! “Just relax and enjoy it,” She tells him... Roy, stunned, doesn’t argue.
Greg returns to downstairs, heads to the kitchen and starts swilling coffee. Bill, hearing what’s happening upstairs, joins him; making the grand-gesture of swilling the the last of the Old Crow. Notably, Greg likely has more need of calming then Bill, and coffee is definitely not what he should be drinking. Bill starts suggesting that getting out of the house would be a good idea, but Greg, wired and worried, turns him down. He makes the same suggestion to Jackie, who tells them that they HAVE to stay, given the situation. This doesn’t improve Bill’s mood, even though he knows she’s right.
Soon after the pair take up residence in the kitchen St. Charles arrives, bursting in through the front door with a big grin! He immediately spots Jackie and starts in again, setting both Bill and Greg (even more) on edge. He continues his effusive praise, then Ariel... STARTS with Roy upstairs. St. Charles looks up at the pornographic sounds, then grins at Jackie. Eventually, they go up to her room to ‘talk’, and inevitably the sex begins there too, though Jackie wasn’t exactly planning on it. Before they head up though, Bill’s anger at Jackie’s behavior and the general situation causes him to crush the coffee cup in his hand.
With all this going on, Bill goes and sits on the stoop- originally he’d planned to study, but that is not gonna happen now with all the howling and moaning. Greg sits in the TV room and simply tries to tune it all out. However, over the link he shares with Jackie he starts getting the sensations of what she’s experiencing! He gets aroused, not by choice or desire, and tries to lock it out. But he can’t! Shifting tactics, he tries to endure it, no go. Then... He goes biker. “If I can learn from this,” he thinks, “I’ll be able to pleasure ANY woman!” And so he tries to connect more solidly, and succeeds! He sort-of trances out on the couch.
While Bill is out on the stoop thinking dark thoughts, a black van pulls up and screeches to a halt! Out pour Greg’s dad and the commandos, followed by Professor Dane and others- there are multiple wounded. Bill blinks, then moves to help, supporting one of the men and getting him inside. He yells to the roommates when there: “KNOCK IT OFF, WE GOT TROUBLE! GET DOWN HERE!” Greg doesn’t even twitch. Bill sets the man he’s helping down, then backhands Greg to snap him out of it- no good. He goes back out to help more of the men. Then Greg’s dad gets inside. He sees his son laid back with a stupid expression and an obvious... Problem, and says, “What. The. Hell.” He whollops Greg HARD, and this time Greg snaps out of it! He too scrambles to help, sending a message to Jackie through the link.
SHe DOES receive it, and in shock shoves St. Charles away. He ends up on the floor asking “Wha, What? Wha’d I do to deserve this?” She tells him, “There’s trouble downstairs.” And starts getting dressed. Moments after, so does St. Charles. Jackie hauls out of the room, pausing at Roy’s room to pound on the door, HARD. “Greg’s DAD is here!” Ariel... Stops. “Sorry, you’re on your own for now.” And she evacuates to Greg’s room. Roy is left alone to contemplate spider bites.
Jackie gets downstairs and joins the triage line as Bill yells for the IV kits they have in the kitchen; the three roommates work with the mobile members of the squad to care for the injured. Eventually, the story is told; it turns out that the meeting that had been arranged for Greg had been a setup. Professor Dane and the crew had gone to check it out, and they barely got clear with their lives; it had been a Vampire Lord! She was a little redhead with a large entourage of Ghouls- they lost one man. Greg is suitably chastised.
Time passes, morning dawns. One by one the housemates come down and have breakfast; the Professor and the squad are all still on site. Greg, Bill and Jackie are all aiming for class this morning, with Bill and Greg leaving first. As he’s heading out, Greg hears Professor Dane and his dad talking- one of the men died in the night. “I’m sorry...” He says. His dad just grimaces, saying, “Its the price we pay for living here.” However, school doesn’t go well for any of the three. Due to the stresses and events of the previous night none of them can concentrate. Jackie goes to get birth control and an IUD, Bill just heads back to the dormhouse, and Greg goes to Master Gung Dok.
The fun begins again when Jackie gets back home. St. Charles has set up his ritual materials and is beginning the restoration of the wards. Jackie watches, and suddenly she can see the spirits that the houngan has around him. One of them turns to face her; “You can see us?” It asks. Surprised, she says “Yes.” It smiles, or at least she thinks it does. “How?” “I’m sensitive to the dead.” One thing leads to another and suddenly, one of the bundles that St. Charles has out puffs into dust! A spirit appears, bows to her and vanishes, This happens with ALL of the items he has!
When this takes place, St. Charles FREAKS. “What the HELL is this?” He angrily rants a bit, then faces Professor Dane. “I cannot work under these circumstances.” With that, he storms off. Jackie follows, trying to get him back but fails. “You have done enough I think, little girl!” She comes back, dejected.
Bill, who arrived home earlier, comes in from working on his ‘new’ van body having marked where he needs cut, weld or fill. He gets the news, but isn’t quite as upset about the loss of St. Charles as perhaps he should be. As it turns out... There isn’t someone else who can easily be contacted to restore the wards. Greg’s father, out of Professor Dane’s view, makes faces to demonstrate HIS opinion of St. Charles’ exit.
Meanwhile, Greg is at the dojo. He explains to the Master his problems, and is told that his problem with possession is caused by a lack of focus on the internal as opposed to the external. So Master Gung Dok starts him on a regimen to teach him the required focus. Greg commences to learn that you don’t need to be tortured by an Imp to achieve new levels of suffering.
By the time he leaves for home, Greg is VERY stiff and sore. The regimen involves him realizing that pain is a choice; he doesn’t HAVE to submit to it. So he’s fighting it all the way back, and nearly hits a little red-headed woman crossing the street! Remembering the description of the vampire lord from the night before, he memorizes her face, and immediately writes this down when he gets back to the house. It MIGHT be her. Maybe. But it was daylight...
Greg gets the lowdown on the situation with the wards, and is also not all that upset with the loss of St. Charles; however, he knows that this isn’t really a good thing. Roy, who has been freaking out talking about ‘teeth!” since he came downstairs and found out about the wards has been trying to get priests to come out and exorcise the house! Bill TRIES to tell him that this won’t work, but he isn’t listening. He starts to run off to try something more, and Bill tries to grab him- he misses, and brains himself solidly against
the corner of a cabinet! He yelps, then goes for help from the medic.
After all of this, the elder Poulte comes in, expressing his ‘regret’ for the loss of St. Charles... Not really. However, he’s gotten some nibbles on the calls Professor Dane had him making, and they may have someone en route to recreate the wards. That being said, he hooks Greg and takes him aside. “You ‘n me are gonna talk about my granddaughter...” Most the roommates scatter, but he grabs Roy. “You can come along too.”
And there we leave off on this shorter than usual run!
