Look! Another update! (gasp!)

Anyway, its just a little one. I got the Xmas tree down today... Which is some kind of record for me, I think. The worst I've ever been was one year I took it down in April. O.o Usually its the last week of January or sometime in February that I get around to it.

As to the housework, like as not I'm going to start painting in the front room. It might be the biggest room that I have to do, but it's also simple, with very little do to in terms of patchwork and stain coverage. From there... Either my bedroom, the front hallway or the bathroom.

Beyond that, life is quiet. I did go over to Pawn America on Tuesday- they have a 2 DVDs for 3 bucks deal, so I got some new films. One of them, Black Mask 2, is enjoyably bad, but it skips and freezes a lot. So, I'll probably exchange it. I did get a few GOOD movies- Shadow of the Vampire, which is sort-of a biopic about Max Schrek, who played the lead in the silent-era Nosferatu, and Gangs of New York, which is just cool.

Tonight I return to running my Pathfinder game, and I THINK I'll be finishing up the current story. I dunno if I'll continue running it, or try something else, or if someone else wants to run something- We'll figure it out. I do have more to run in the world, but I wanna see what the players want to do.

I've been REAL lazy with updates. The last was after the Holiday Party... Uff. I actually meant to update on a daily basis! Anyway, here's whats been up.

Snow.

Clearing Snow.

Work.

Drama at Work.

Reading! I've started the Sookie Stackhouse series- you know, the stuff behind True Blood on HBO. Better than I'd expected, even if there are WAY too many vampires. I also reread the Otherworld series, and the latest of the Jane Yellowrock series. There is a collection coming out in February with a previously-unpublished Dresden story, and in March the next Dresden novel comes out, as does the next Mercy Thompson book. Woot!

Gaming! Slow month here, we skipped this last Sunday due to plaerus nonattendus, but we finished the Western Campaign arc the run before. I'll try to get it written up before the next meet.

MMO's! I played City Of Heroes with the Going Rogue expansion for a month, and had fun. I'll prolly go back again at some point. However, I'm doing DC Universe Online now, and its a lot of fun. I had MASSIVE trouble initially (totally different controlset from what I'm used to, little bits of stupid in the game, little bits of stupid on my part), but now I think Its gonna last. IF Sony backs it like an MMO needs.

I get to clear snow tomorrow after work, which is gonna suck but shouldn't take too long.

And that's about it for now. Off to work!

Phooey!

I missed yesterday's daily! O well, it was an uneventful one anyway.

Today though... It started drizzling while I was at work. Being as this adds to the problem of ice and snow on the roof (and oddly also helps with that situation), I went up there this morning and dug a trench in the snow and much around the periphery of the flat roof, then salted the hell out of that area. Hopefully, the roof will drain better now, and the section where the flat roof abuts the peak won't flood, freeze and get inside. By the time I was done my back was screaming- shoveling wet snow sucks.

Before next Friday I need to clean the house some- nothing real hard, just a general picking-up-of-things and the usual sweeping and vacuuming. The party approacheth! I'll be going out today and ordering the subs from Cousins in a bit- four of them. There will be a LOT of food, and more than likely a lot of leftovers! I definitely don't mind that. As usual I'm gonna recruit people to help get the munchies (chips, pop, cheese and such), and I should make those calls tonight too.

Lastly, in an odd twist of fate I'm back on City of Heroes- Going Rogue was on sale on Steam for $10, and given that the price includes a month of play, I couldn't pass on it. I'm having fun in Pretoria with my new Energy Melee / Willpower Brute. :)

Oh- the New Years plans aren't fixed as of yet, but I should know whats up tonight, and we may be gaming in the Sunday Group this weekend. Woot!

About a half hour ago I got back inside from clearing snow off the roof. I had ice dams building up, and had to get the snow off them so they'll melt clear. The snow up there is deeper than the vent pipes, so I'll prolly have to go up again to make sure those are cleared as well. I'll do that tomorrow. [livejournal.com profile] mirrdae assisted in getting the ladder in place after I discovered that the snow rake wasn't worth a crap with the heavy, sticky snow up there. I salted the dams (screw the lawn!), and hopefully they'll break up over the next few days. I think in the future, regardless of the inconvenience, I'll clear the snow right when it first comes down. :P

Other than that, today is quiet. I'll probably shower here in a bit, and I get to work later. Yay.
realsorien: (Default)
Naturally, after that huge meal I ended up passing out. From 10:30 til 2:30 I was thoroughly dead to the world. Thereafter I got up... And promptly fell back asleep in my chair for several more hours. When I finally DID get up, I chatted on FurryMUCK for a bit, then got groceries. And guess what- we got MORE snow! :P

Honestly, I love having a white Christmas. I really do, but this... Its kinda nuts. We're in record snowfall territory now. At least the snow blower SERIOUSLY kicks ass now. If I get chains for the tires on it, it'll kick even MORE ass. In about 45 minutes I cleared my driveway, got rid of the ridge the plow left there as well, cleared the ridge at the Monroe end of the alley, cleared the sidewalk and then cleared my neighbor's driveway and walk as well! [livejournal.com profile] foeclan... You DO have enough area to warrant a snow blower. Seriously. Maybe not one the size of mine, but the next size down- it REALLY helps a ton.

I'm gonna head to bed shortly, then this afternoon I'll head to the folks for the family get-toigether... And prolly move more snow. Bleah.

Ugh.

I got off work and came home, and immediately went and dug us out with the show blower. Migod- done in 45 minutes! When that stupid thing decides to work, it really works! [livejournal.com profile] iatro finished up by shoveling off the front steps, as I was fried by that point. Right now I'm doing laundry, and as soon as this first load is in the dryer and the second is in the washer, I'm going to bed.

I'm sore now, and I'm gonna be more sore later. Oh well- I made a good breakfast at least. French toast and sausage links with orange juice.
realsorien: (Default)
These days I'm trying to post at least something here daily... Not that I'll always succeed, but I'm making the attempt. I now have a funky rack in my front room in which [livejournal.com profile] iatro's snakes are in. It's effin' HUGE, but... It for some reason works out. Maybe because it isn't bearing all of the resentment I'd built up for that damn desk. ;)

I may have to go at the roof with the snow-rake. There's a LOT up there. Its not a safety issue, but with that much up there I WILL get ice dams. Maybe I'll get it when dad stops out this week and I can have a bit of help with it.

Sunday, after I got back from the 11 hour shift I went out for food at Keys Cafe with [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain, [livejournal.com profile] mirrdae and [livejournal.com profile] feezlekahn; I pigged out, as usual, and I think a good time was had by all in general. After that, I actually slept- fitfully, but I DID get some actual rest. Today I woke after about 4 hours... So I'll probably nap later.

The street is FINALLY clear. Mostly. At least safely navagable. This is one of the most piss-poor snow-clearance jobs I've ever seen in Minnesota. I know the management of the buildings I work at will have words for the city- our loading docks and garage were plowed in... And they're not supposed to EVER cut off building access. Its a safety issue as well as a business issue, after all.

I may be making some pretty hefty changes in 'Bear False Witness'- I may totally ditch the 'Great Desert' idea. Given the location, I just can't make it work in my head. But I've a rather more spectacular idea to replace it that could work, and would be a far more obvious example of a deific temper tantrum. ;) In other writing, I'm playing with a short story to explain just that event, and another idea is sitting on my laptop screen waiting to be played with.

Stopping, cos I'm rambling all over.

And....

I got the snow blower around front, and the sidewalk is done in front of my house to Monroe St. and up to my door. I also kinda dug out some around my car, so I could move it to the back where the snow is far shallower because of the clearing I did earlier. I'll note that even with my blowing it out and the front-end loader that came through, th3e alley has around 4-6" on the ground, not counting the ridge the loader left.

I do love winter, but I REALLY loathe having to do the cleanup. It truly sucks with no help.

Aaigh.

I've got the back dug out, which is the first pass. I'll have to do it again later, as the snow is STILL coming down and probably won't stop til well after 8 PM. From what I've seen, we've gotten about 8-10 inches where I am. Minneapolis proper has about 7.1 inches or so.

The front is NOT done yet. I'm kinda hoping one of the neighbors has a bout of self-loathing and decides to run their snow blower up and down the length of the sidewalk. :P

I honestly don't know if I'll be able to get in to work tonight- its pretty bad. The Snow Emergency was declared while I was working on clearing the back, but its Snow Emergency routes and alleys first. Tomorrow is even side, which means me and [livejournal.com profile] khirsahdrgn have to have our cars moved one way or the other by 8 AM tomorrow.

At least if I DO get in to work, I get to park in the garage.

Snow.

We've gotten about 5 inches so far, IF Northeast Minneapolis has gotten the same as southern Hennepin. I suspect we've gotten more than that. We're supposed to get between 9 and 16 inches before midnight, and its also supposed to go negative temp before 8 PM tonight I'll be digging ups out later this morning, even though I'll prolly have to do it again tomorrow morning. Bleah.

They've NOT declared a snow emergency (which triggers parking restrictions for plowing that vary from day to day over three days), but there is NO way that they won't before midnight. So likely tomorrow will be parkways and alleys, Monday will be Even sides of streets, and Tuesday will be odd side.

I'm awake now because the carbos and booze coma'd me out after I got home from the restaurant, kinda as was easily predictable. It was worth it though. :)

I just hope my remaining deliveries can get here, if they're due today. At least I get my white Christmas!

Today...

The gorceries are done. The laundry is mostly done, one more load to go. The laundromat run is also done, the quilts now clean, dry and folded. I once again have beer, and I picked up a bottle of Kraken rum that is gonna get cracked and sampled tonight sometime.

And lastly... THE XMAS SHOPPING IS EFFING DONE!!!

Go me. :)
realsorien: (Default)
I crashed last night around 3, and woke up at about 6:30. There's a fair bit of snow out there, and in a few hours (when people here are awake) I'll go out and use the blower to clear the back. After that, I'll either shovel out the front or see if I can't recruit someone to do it for me. In the meantime, I've started on the first editing pass of the novel; mostly I'm making some notes on the printout and thinking about how to expand things. There are a LOT of little bugs and odd bits that fail to precisely fit, so this is going to take a while.

Also... I think that my cough might not be my asthma. It was STARTED by the cold and the asthma, but I think I've got a touch of acid reflux. I have a slight burning sensation at the top of my stomach, and the coughing happens even if my breathing is utterly clear. So I may go to the doctor about it, after maybe trying the over-the-counter version of prevacid. I'm not throwing up in my sleep or anything, so it might be just some damage from all the coughing... Which causes more coughing. Biology sucks, sometimes.

Other than digging out and editing and such, I may do a little housecleaning as well. Plus I really need to get some actual sleep- I do work tonight after all.
realsorien: (Default)
I've started varnishing the new bifold doors for the basement. Yuck. I REALLY suck at this- I can't tell if its on too thick or too thin, it blobs in corners and valleys on the doors... Bleah. Well, the first coat of one side is done. I took the two sides apart to make it easier, and I should get the reverse done later tonight. Tomorrow is the first sanding and the second coat, and given how light it looks I may need to do a second sanding and third coat. O well.

In other news, I'm off to a movie shortly- we (Me, [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain, [livejournal.com profile] feezlekahn, [livejournal.com profile] khirsahdrgn and his guest, and [livejournal.com profile] iatro are headed to see Despicable Me at the Rosedale theater. The latter three will meet us there.

And that's about all that's up now.
realsorien: (Default)
I've been utterly unambitious of late, and I've gotten very little of the things I need to do around the house and otherwise done. I need to paint the garage doors, prime and paint the windowframes (can't do it til we determine what we need in terms of primer and such), vacuum the front and back rooms and my bedroom, rearrange the furniture in the front room, and a bunch of other general chores. I also need to get the synopsis for the Sunday game done, and I have something I need to do at work as well that I've been putting off.

Its not depression or anything, I just haven't DONE it. I've been feeling kinda blah, and I think it has two roots- my lousy sleep of late and the fact my allergies have been driving me crazy. Regardless, I'm going to get it ALL done this week.

... My addiction to City of Heroes hasn't exactly helped either. :P

Other than this, I've looked into fares on the Megabus to Chicago. Migod, it's cheaper than the taxi fare from Union Station to the hotel! $40.50 ROUND TRIP!! Wow. Guess how I'll be going to the con! Now all I have to do is get the money for the convention together...

Finally, I plan to make fried chicken thighs and mashed potatoes this week, probably Tuesday or Wednesday- I need to get buttermilk tho.

Last rambly bit- my car is having issues again. The antilock brakes have some kind of problem, so Dad his it to work on and I have his til its fixed. Its safe to drive, but the brakes are standard with the problem rather than antilock. O well.
realsorien: (Default)
Its early morning and I'm back at the Holiday Inn East in St. Paul. I'll be here through Thursday night/Friday morning, and maybe that weekend as well- But I'm not sure there. Its not too bad, I can type and chat on the net between rounds and such, but the $40-a-week in gas it costs to get here makes it definitely not worth it as a permanent account. Hell, that kinda disqualifies ANY account on this end of town!

I haven't finished the primer-coat on the garage doors yet, that will probably happen this morning when I get home. Yesterday I was too tired and achy, and spent the day kinda lying around. As she mentioned in her journal, [livejournal.com profile] ataramos is back in Wisconsin for about a month, and I hope she enjoys the trip! It's gonna be interesting to see how Lady reacts to her not being there, as Ata is kinda Lady's 'human.'

In other things, I also didn't go to fireworks on the 4th- neither I nor Ata really felt up to it. Maybe sometime this week I'll go to Hancock or one of the other flicks I've yet to see.

Other than that, its a night.
realsorien: (Default)
Well, on Wednesday I talked to the folks on the phone and was informed that dad and my brother were coming out today (Friday the 4th) to work on my garage doors. I hadn't expected this, and while I DO appreciate the volunteered labor I don't like them just working on stuff for me. Between my work-hours and being tired a lot, and frankly being lazy, I don't get nearly enough done around the house as I should... And I feel bad enough about it without them coming and doing it for me. So, I kinda resolved to be up when they got here to at least pull some of the load.

Of course, I slept like crap. They got here at the crack of 9 AM, which was about 2 1/2 hours after I crashed. I'd been figuring noon or later! Anyway, as I'd not really been asleep anyway I heard their arrival and went down to help. We got both doors stripped of the old paint, vacuumed up the dust, swept out the garage, tossed out a TON of crap from the garage and made a lot of progress.

Now... As I'd totally spaced warning [livejournal.com profile] mirrdae and [livejournal.com profile] khirsahdrgn about this, and I didn't do anything myself about it before we got started, Mirr's car and Khir's motorcycle got dusty. REAL dusty in the case of Mirr's car. I put the cover over the motorcycle before it got as bad as the car. With pretty much everything else done, I'll be hosing it down later today to get the worst of the dust off, and I'll give each of them $10 or so for the trouble; it WAS my fault that I didnt' warn them, after all.

And now, its almost 3 PM. I'll paint tonight sometime, either before or after fireworks. Its a quiet job, so I can do it when I damn well please. :) The tentative plan is for me and [livejournal.com profile] ataramos to head to Keegan's Pub, hang out there for a while then walk to the Stone Arch Bridge for the fireworks, then head home after. Possibly we'll catch a midnight show of 'Hancock' but that's in the air.

The garage is (compared to the way it USUALLY is) SCARY clean. I also got my brother his birthday gift, and dad took my car home to look at whatever is making the horrible grinding sound. Likely its bad bearings.

The trash bin is FULL, too... This is bad, cos we still have trash upstairs. I'll try to mash it down later.
realsorien: (Default)
Lady is getting friendlier. I suspect she may start actually being out in the open at least around the upstairs roomies within a few weeks. Spaz is still sick, but his fever broke. Mostly he's just all stuffed up- rather a gruesome sound, but for the most part harmless. I think he'll be fine (aside from my paranoid fears) in a few days. As its prolly kennel cough, it lasts for a week or two and we're getting close to that.

On other things, the Sunday group had Traveller yesterday. We have a new player, named Ben. His character is Luke, a Lutrani- basically a human genemod species who possess otterlike aquatic alterations. He apparently has had other cybernetic mods as well. I should have the writeup done in the next week or so. Our next run is a month hence, as the GM is going to be out of town- it would also be Father's Day on the normal run-date.

I got the lawn mowed finally, too- After my mower broke I tried to borrow one from friends. They weren't home so I tried the rental place. It was closed. Then I just kinda gave up and ran out to the folks and swiped theirs. But its done for now. I'm contemplating the start of work on the outside of the house too in the near future... More fool I.
realsorien: (Default)
Yay! Now its reassembling the room, putting crap away and steamcleaning the traffic areas of the rugs. And mowing the lawn. Bleah. And getting new blinds. O well. Saturday will make it worthwhile. :)
realsorien: (Default)
I've a few minutes before I go out the door for an errand, so here's a little update. I'm all set with AC prep now but for the packing- the money is set aside and I know who is in the room now- Me, [livejournal.com profile] khirsahdrgn and [livejournal.com profile] feezlekhan. I might have room for one on the floor, but talk to me closer to the date. Steve, the fella who usually takes the other bed isn't going this year, due to finances, inability to get the time off and the fact that later this year he's moving to New Hampshire (!!)...

I'm also mostly set for Midwest Furfest. Yay!

On other things- I'm getting over the cold, tho I'm still coughing, its nowhere near as bad as it was earlier. I'm finally cought up on bills (I think), and if I feel up to it I might start dealing with the forest that was once a lawn on Sunday, and maybe de-weed the garden.

Mr. Lillehaug is okay, tho he had to pop back down to the Mayo yesterday- he was getting drainage from the sutures, which isn't supposed to happen. They fixed him back up, and the doctor said, 'If this is the worst thing that happens during your recovery, it'll be smooth sailing'. I think that's the accurate quote. :)

That's it for now. :)

Urgh.

This morning I took [livejournal.com profile] mirrdae to the airport for his trip. Originally, I had thought his flight was in the evening, not the morning, and I'd planned to use the morning to clean the bathroom; so much for that. I got back from the drive and DID manage to get the last boxes moved to their semi-final resting places, and had breakfast. After that and a little time on the net, I crashed.

I didn't get up till about 7:30 PM. So much for getting things done today. The carpeters will arrive between 7 and 9 AM, and I'm debating just what to do- I have to do the grocery run for the party, do some banking for Mirr, and I STILL have cleaning to do. Bleah.

O well, I'll get it done. I just won't LIKE it.
