I think that I'm gonna make an eye appointment relatively soon. The fact that I couldn't read the teeny print on the bank website, and the trouble I've had since I got my current glasses kinda convinces me that something's up. I DON'T want bifocals, but... Fuck if I wouldn't rather be able to see properly! Also, while I was fine through the con other than the coughing from my stupid asthma, it might now be turning into something else. I was going to go in to the allergist anyway, but this means I'll try to get in tomorrow rather than just getting an appointment when I can. I'm betting its just an opportunistic cold developing cos the asthma has been kicking my ass since the illness I had three weeks before the con. I have to say I'm gettin' pretty tired of getting sick. :P

Other than that, I spent a bit of my remaining con money (Yes, even with the bank stupidity I still had money allocated left for fun stuff) and got the Pathfinder book. With my discount and the sale I got at $35 new, free shipping. It retails at $50. Woot. :)

Saturday I'm considering starting my Xmas shopping. Friday is a NO EFFING WAY day for me and shopping- I hate stores to start with without rabid bargain-hunting swarms. I'm aiming for about $10 per gift, maybe a bit more for the family ones. Anyone who's on my list (you know who you are!) lemme know what you want! For me... All I want is LOTS of Barnes & Noble gift cards.

This being the first day home, not much is going on. I'll go back to work at midnight, work two days and its Thanksgiving. I'll be at my folks Thursday evening, and that's about all that's going on.

Bleargh.

I'm sick. Its just a cold, but its seriously messing with me. I'm not going into work tonight, and due to the cold meds I'm using I have zero focus- thus I'm still up when I planned to go lie down. I'm THIS CLOSE to finishing the short story, and I WILL do that tomorrow, or maybe later tonight if I get back up. Other than that not a lot is going on.

Icky medicine. :P

Its a bottle of generic stuff with Dextromethorphan, a cough suppressant. I tried to sleep yesterday, and every time I laid down (aside from one two-hour space where I DID sleep) I starting coughing uncontrollably. This stuff, a generic version of Delsym, works pretty good. I actually slept from about 5 PM til 11. It's ONLY a suppressant, which is what I needed. Of course, it tastes horrible. Grape horrible, as opposed to yellow, green, pink or brown horrible. Of them all, the medicines that were yellow were inevitably the worst. This stuff, supposedly grape, I can get down and the aftertaste is nonexistent. Unlike ANY of the Robutussen or 44D variants, which you can STILL taste an hour later. Bleah.

I'm nearly through this stupid cold. I think I'll be pretty much fine tomorrow. Although... The sensation that I get from the stuff feels real weird; I can feel a cough there, but it kinda just doesn't happen and there's this indescribable sensation in my throat... Weird.

Was up and down as previously mentioned. I go back to work tonight, and I'm still sick. I'm fairly sure I can go in, but I'm NOT gonna like it. The game on Sunday went well- I brought hamburger and buns and Our Gracious Hosts cooked it up for us all. Yay, I didn't have to cook! Anyway, I had a good time, but it would have been better if I'd not had such hellish drainage. :P

I slept from about 5 am til noon kinda fitfully, and if I need it I'll go back to bed. [livejournal.com profile] ataramos, if you see this, call home- you got a letter that might be important concerning healthcare! And that's about it. Back to work tonight, but at least its only three days this week. Oh- All the stuff I ordered has shipped, so with luck I should have the books by Wednesday, and the trackballs by Friday.
realsorien: (Default)
I'm on a four day weekend, mostly because I wanted it and because it means I won't have to rush to work right after the game on Sunday. This is a good thing. And because I had a little extra cash after paying the bills and getting groceries I decided to get some books. This was done in two halves- some ordered from Barnes & Noble online, the rest gotten CHEAP from Half Price Books.

From Barnes & Noble I got:

My Big Fat Supernatural Wedding (A collection of supernatural wedding tales including one from the Dresden Files)

My Big Fat Supernatural Honeymoon (Companion to the above)

Strange Brew (An anthology centered around alcohol, with a Dresden Story)

Mean Streets (YET ANOTHER Anthology, this one of gritty city supernatural tales. Another Dresden tale in this one as well)

Armageddon 2419 AD (The ORIGINAL Buck Rogers story! Beware the Yellow Peril! Despite that, its a good read.)

The above have all shipped, and will probably get here by Wednesday.

From Half Price Books, the haul was bigger and smaller- bigger, in that there were more books bought, smaller, as it'd take three or more of them to match ONE of the anthologies in size! [livejournal.com profile] feezlekahn accompanied me- we went to the one near Northtown Mall, north of us.

Han Solo's Revenge by Brian Daley (A Star Wars novel, one of three from Daley. Guilty pleasure from long ago)

Ambulance Ship by James White (A tale of the Hospital Station series)

A Swiftly Tilting Planet by Madeline L'Engle (The third book from the Wrinkle In Time series)

The Moon Maid by Edgar Rice Burroughs (A true pulp, I saw it and at a dollar I HAD to get it!)

Dorsai! by Gordon R. Dickson (The classic, I've never read it!)

The Mummy, or Ramses The Damned by Anne Rice (From her Vampire Chronicles series, tho he ain't a vamp!)

The Tale of the Body Thief by Anne Rice (More Vampire Chronicles and Lestat)

The Fortress in the Eye of Time by C. J. Cherryh (I've no idea, but its a fantasy and its Cherryh!)

And that's the haul. Most of the stuff from Half Price were a buck or two each. I may order one or two books further on Barnes & Noble, but that'll hinge on their actually HAVING what I'm after. I've gotten a taste for some of the older and more obscure stuff I remember reading long ago. :)

Also on Friday, I made chili. I, [livejournal.com profile] feezlekahn partook, though I did offer to [livejournal.com profile] mirrdae and [livejournal.com profile] zxizaraxii. They'd already eaten, however. [livejournal.com profile] khirsahdrgn had a guest over so I didn't ask him. The chili was a good batch, and I REALLY ought to write the damned recipe down- I make it from memory every time and I know there are a few who'd like to know what goes in. [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain brought over some odd hamburgers made of ground sirloin and a couple of different mushrooms ground together too... They weren't to my taste, and the Oniony kaiser rolls weren't something I like. However, I'm a fussy bitch and it's prolly just me. ;)

And now we get to the 'bad' and the 'it f*cking figures' part. I couldn't sleep today. I tried, and it just didn't happen. So I ended up staying up playing 'UFO Alien Attack', and OLD Microprose game for about six hours, til I headed out to the book store. The fatigue finally started taking me down after dinner, so I kinda slumped unconscious after my dinner companions went off to see a movie. I think it was 'Kick Ass' but I was pretty muzzy by then. And now I know WHY I was screwed up- I've apparently gotten a cold or something, and I set to kicking my butt with a vengeance. I took ibuprofin and sudafed, and slept like the dead through fever-sweats. I THINK the fever broke, but I hope like hell I can get over this before Sunday. I REALLY wanna game! Thus, It F*CKING FIGURES that I'd get sick on a long weekend!

Feh. And that's it. Right now I'm up, feeling better and drinking tea. My throat feels like its been sanded and there's drainage, but other than that I seem okay... But we'll see. Thus today will be me trying to make sure its GONE.

... Here's a bit of an update. First, it turned out that I WAS sick, rather than it being my allergies. I think I'm mostly over it now, but this afternoon will tell. I had to work last night regardless. Aside from being a bit run down, it wasn't too bad. Mostly it was a head cold-ish thing, and I'm basically down to just sniffles now.

Other than that, I didn't get a damned thing done this weekend, primarily due to that. Yesterday was me sleeping all day, or at least trying to. Today is sleep followed by the Horror Campaign, which I'm looking forward to despite not getting the damned writeup done. I sent the GM the raw notes at least.

One thing that was good about working last night- I got myself a nice little deskish thing from work, that would have been thrown out otherwise. Its mainly designed for a printer I think, but it has a pull-out keyboard tray. Its in real good shape, and while a touch unwieldy I was able to manhandle the thing into the house and to my room without any real trouble or significant noise.

And that about covers it.
realsorien: (Default)
... Kinda literally. As I left work, JUST as I reached my car there was a sudden sense of urgency... I managed to make it home, but ever since me and the bathroom have been getting quite well acquainted. At least its only from one end. :P

I had hoped to dodge it this time, but nope. O well.

Dad picked up Sprite, Gatorade and Immodium AD for me, and I think I'm a bit better. We shall see.

Still sick.

I tried to sleep last night and I got a few fitful hours punctuated by my coughing my head off, followed with the joy of fever-sweats. That, combined with my voice going to hell convinced me to go to the doctor. I got an appointment at my allergist, Allergy & Asthma Specialists downtown and went in. Yep, I'm sick. I'm not working again tonight, and I've prescriptions for Prednesone and an antibiotic that I couldn't read; I'll pick that up later today from Walgreens. I dropped the note off at my work as well, and found out that I can burn some vacation days to cover the time off! So I WON'T lose pay for these three days. Thats ONE good thing at least!
realsorien: (Default)
Well I'm still alive and nothing dramatic happened. Last week, I started feeling a bit of a cold or flulike thing affecting me. By Sunday morning, it was definitely there, and I wasn't too happy. So I basically spent the weekend curled up and playing City of Heroes/City of Villains on the New Toy, or sleeping. Tuesday arrived, and my throat felt like I'd swallowed a handful of broken glass, so I called into work. As it turns out, it peaked at about 11 PM or so, thus validating my decision. RIght now, I feel okay. I'm a bit run down, but thats to be expected.

Hopefully I'll get the Werewolf synopsis done by Sunday, and the posts by Goblin up by Saturday. Right now I'm not in the mood to write, but I DO wanna get that stuff finished.

City of Heroes is a BLAST, by the way. :)

Saturday, I woke at 3 PM, still kinda sick but feeling better. I was looking forward to just kinda sitting around, trying to get a bit closer to healthy before work. I dragged my tail out of bed, and went to brush my teeth... just after I started, the phone rings, and I run to answer it, mouth full of toothpaste.

Me- Herrowff?
Account Manager (AM)- Mike? Can you come in?
Me- Now? I broffhing moi teef!
AM- As soon as you can- nobody showed up to work for second- as long as you can, and I'll be in to relieve you, so you won't have to work the overnight.
Me- Uh... I gueff. I can be vere avout pffiveish?
AM- Okay, good.
Me- I'll work fil one?
AM- You might as well get some extra hours...
Me- Sthill gettin' over thith cole!
AM- Okay. Thanks!

I hang up, finish brushing, wash my hair and get dressed. I make it into work in less than a half hour from the time of the call, at 4 PM.

As I walk into the office, the fellow I'm relieving is on the phone... Not a good sign.

It turns out that there is a crew scrubbing the lowest level of one of the two parking ramps which are part of the account, and they managed to blow one of the sprinkler heads by parking their compressor-unit with its exhaust directly under the head, thus setting it off as soon as it hit the trigger temp of 160 degrees f. So, the fire system is discharging all over the place from the blown head. Joy.

Note that we're getting NO alarms.

So, I take over, call my supervisor (the fella who had me come in in the first place) and the building on-call engineer and haul ass to the ramp to see what the situation is. I confirm it, realize that I have the wrong number for the engineer, haul ass BACK to the office, tell the engineer what's up, he says hes on his way and I go back to the ramp.

(Pant-pant-pant)

The engineer arrives and looks it over. he sends me back to the office to put the fire system on test, which I do, and then we spend time digging around to try and find the number for the company to repair the damn head.

We had to actually get one of the tags from the sprinkler room, cos it wasn't in either the security office, nor the engineering office. GAH.

Eventually, things got sorted and the night went quietly thereafter- but damn, I'm getting tired of having to deal with morons...

I got home just after one, and basically idled all night thereafter.

I've a few minutes before I go out the door for an errand, so here's a little update. I'm all set with AC prep now but for the packing- the money is set aside and I know who is in the room now- Me, [livejournal.com profile] khirsahdrgn and [livejournal.com profile] feezlekhan. I might have room for one on the floor, but talk to me closer to the date. Steve, the fella who usually takes the other bed isn't going this year, due to finances, inability to get the time off and the fact that later this year he's moving to New Hampshire (!!)...

I'm also mostly set for Midwest Furfest. Yay!

On other things- I'm getting over the cold, tho I'm still coughing, its nowhere near as bad as it was earlier. I'm finally cought up on bills (I think), and if I feel up to it I might start dealing with the forest that was once a lawn on Sunday, and maybe de-weed the garden.

Mr. Lillehaug is okay, tho he had to pop back down to the Mayo yesterday- he was getting drainage from the sutures, which isn't supposed to happen. They fixed him back up, and the doctor said, 'If this is the worst thing that happens during your recovery, it'll be smooth sailing'. I think that's the accurate quote. :)

That's it for now. :)

The ugh- I'm still sick. UGH.

The good news- They're releasing the ORIGINAL VERSIONS of the first (temporally, not chronologically) three Star Wars Films, available til December 31st! Yay!

No more fucktard-inspired 'greedo-shot-first'!

http://www.cnn.com/2006/SHOWBIZ/Movies/05/04/film.starwars.reut/index.html

I feel a bit better cos of this. USA Today also has an article, a bit longer, in today's Life section.

As I posted before, I'm sick again. Just a cold, and I think (I HOPE) that its letting go fairly quickly. My apetite has gone to hell, and I feel like my head's packed with cotton. Bleah. I think this time it was just caused by my immune system being nuked by my asthma and the hellish amounts of pollen we've had.

In other news, there isn't much other news. I'm just hoping I get over this crap.
realsorien: (Default)
Bleah. I just called offshift for work tonight. I woke up because it felt like I'd swallowed a bag of broken glass. :P Hopefully a night of rest will help clear this crap up.

In other, non-angsty news life goes on. If I'm feeling better tomorrow I'll be at [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain's game at his place (Stubborn bugger, he is... bacterial-blood infection and he STILL wants to run...), and I'm definitely also looking forward to our rescheduled Werewolf game on Sunday- We're playing then cos next weekend is Easter, and the following week is bolluxed for various reasons as well.

I might post the narrative I wrote of my Werewolf character's history here later tonight, just cos I'm curious how I did. :)

[livejournal.com profile] danshrugs... We ARE gaming tomorrow. Prolly see you there. I hope.

Bleah...

I seem to have [livejournal.com profile] ataramos's cold or whatever-it-is. Bleah. I'm contemplating calling off-shift tonight to see if I can shake it- but seeing as she's had it for almost a week I have my doubts. Everyone in the house save for maybe [livejournal.com profile] khirsahdrgn seems to have some sort of sharp-clawed, deeply-dug-in miserable infection. And people wonder why I call my place 'Plague House'. :P

And I just found out in [livejournal.com profile] foeclan's journal that [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain, his roomie and my former roomie, is ALSO sick and in the hospital with what seems to be a bacterial blood-infection. Gaah. At least THAT one can't be traced to here!

I don't think I have to worry about the Dreaded Bird Flu. Cos anything fatal would just end the misery, and I don't think we'd be that lucky. O.o
realsorien: (Default)
Blah. Once again, I'm sick. It seems to be some kind of flu. At the time I'm writing this I'm feeling a fair bit better, but I can tell I'm still out of sorts. It started Tuesday, with an all-ay headache that officially went 'migraine' around 5 PM. At that point I decided to call into work and stay home to get over what I thought was 'just' another migraine.

At 9 PM, the account supervisor called to say that she couldn't fill the shift, so I ended up going in to work- unshaven, and decidedly sick. As the night went on I got the added joys of chills and sweats, and bodyaches. [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain had kindly gotten me some (gah) Gatorade, and I was able to drink that to avoid dehydration. (To me, the stuff is foul, regardless.)

In any event, I survived the night and crashed immediately after getting home. Another 'symptom' manifested when I got up, which I'll spare you the details of... Fortunately, it didn't last long.

I'm getting tired of getting sick all the time. I may have the source identified... And it don't make me happy. Every other Sunday, I game with some friends at their place. We rotate games, and its generally a good time- but, there are little kids. And they may be why I keep getting the 'virus of the week' as they're around OTHER little kids at daycare and/or school. :P

I don't wanna stop gaming with them, but I can't miss more work from illness either. I'm home from work tonight to recover, and thats where things stand at the moment.

I hope this isn't angsty.

Bleah.

Its Sunday, and I'm still sick. :P I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired... That being said, I'll live. It still bothers me somewhat that in the last two years I've been getting sick a LOT more than I did in the previous decade. Not that I never got sick- I did, but the general severity seems to have ramped up on me. Ick.

Anyway, yesterday we played in [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain's Vanguard campaign. Most of the run was the continuance, completion or ending of various sub-plots, and dealing with some of the real-world events that also took place in the campaign. I'm putting it behind a cut cos its HUGE. The run was titled "Life, or Something Like It", and was the 12th 'issue' of the campaign. :)

Sick.

Sicksicksick.

Gah. It used to be I'd NEVER get sick. I guess its that age-thing catching up with me or something. At least the misery is shared tho- nearly everyone else in the house has, or had whatever this is.

O well. This too, shall pass. And in... 12 days, I get the damn cast off and the pins out. :)

In other news, I continue to cruise ebay for interesting stuff- I've discovered that I REALLY hate being outbid in the last moments of an auction. To me, that's just tacky- get into the fight early, if you want the damn thing! Its just kinda rotten to snipe an item at the last moment. :P

I'll be online more as I feel better, especially when I get back to typing two-handed.
realsorien: (Default)
...And I'm still sick. I generally don't use this to bitch, but geez... This first hit me last Wednesday morning, and I'm still coughing, and I couldn't sleep today, and thus I really feel crappy. Blah.

I'm SO tired of being sick 'n tired...
realsorien: (Default)
And so, I've had this stupid cold since Wednesday morning- It kicked into gear right after I got off of work, and has been annoying ever since. Bleah. So, I'm staying home from work in the hopes of getting over it quick- I really can't afford to miss a lot of work. :P

Other than that, he prep for Xmas continues, with my plan being to do the next big store-drive on Sunday or Monday. I've finally gotten ideas from most of my holdout friends, and I think that I can get it all done and wrapped before the party! Whee.

As to that- the plan is likely gonna be Cousins subs for the foodage, with [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain making his (Very good!) Chicken Noodle Soup- the usual snackage and cheeses will be there too. This isn't an open party (sorry, I can't afford gifts for EVERYONE I know...), but I hope to see those that are invited there! The date, at least right now, is the 19th of December, a Sunday, starting after 5 PM and going til whenever.
