Reading Review
Apr. 5th, 2010 06:14 pmI've been burning through books pretty fast of late, as the kind of job I have is one of those 'hurry up and wait' kinda things. About a week ago
foeclan loaned me the first book of Jim Butcher's Codex Alera series, Furies of Calderon. Well, I now have the entire series so far, including the hardcover of the most recent. I'm on book two, and I do like the series. It has very good character development, an interesting and well-thought out world and a solid over-arcing plotline. That being said, if you're looking to read this due to having read Butcher's other work, the Dresden Files series, the style is NOT the same. Whereas Dresden essentially narrates his stories, this is more of a third-person view with the view switching between the perspectives of the main characters.
I definitely recommend it, but it ain't Dresden. Which is a good thing in its own way. I'll be finishing the second book tonight, and starting the third. Of course, I'll be pausing in the series when I get my copy of Changes, the latest Dresden book. It comes out Tomorrow and I've got it on pre-order. Whee!
The Codex Alera books are as follows:
1. Furies of Calderon
2. Academ's Fury
3. Cursor's Fury
4. Captain's Fury
5. Princep's Fury
6. First Lord's Fury (still only in hardcover)
