Router-a-go-go... And Gaming!

Well, last night as usual I tried to get on line. No dice. Apparently the wireless router that I've been sponging off of was interfered with just enough by the weather that I could FIND the signal, but I couldn't actually connect. I tried multiple times, but it just wasn't enough. O well. So, I cleaned out some of the crap on my hard drive like duplicate files, rearranged some folder-contents, and looked back at my old Levin's Realm campaign-world.
I'd forgotten I'd done a synopsis of the first run! I'd also forgotten that in the first run there were only two players present. Its got me thinking about restarting the campaign from ground zero, as a 'run-whenever' campaign with players from the household and local area, as opposed to the Sunday group who've already played through the stuff I'll likely begin with.
I've never finished the maps that I wanted to have for the world, and there are still some countries on the main landmass to define, but that I can work on. I especially want to map out, at least in basic, the city of Vinvale and the Keep; its where the campaign is at least initially centered, and I really should have an idea of where things are located. I'll prolly post some of the world-backgrund and such here later, if I decide to go forward with this.
In any event, for those who are interested, here is the synopsis of the first run. Fortunately, it shouldn't significantly impact anything if the new players read it- it was almost all roleplay and social actions. Our Heroes are Jothan (Played by Mike M.), A human bard seeking the world for his words, and Galin, a warrior Dwarf who follows a path which perhaps leads to his serving as a cleric of Moradin. :)
In the early spring of the year 712 the caravanners began once again to pass upon the Great Trade Road; in one of these, that of Thavas the Grim, of the Alliance States, a young bard had struck out into the world. This bard, Jothan Westernese, was originally of the Alliance state of Arvouia, and had lived in the port city of Sutterhame.
Notably, tales of the sea are quite stirring, and are great fodder for a bard; however, Jothan had never put to sea, and tales of the arrivals and leavings of ships really bore little magic for him. Thus, when the opportunity arose to travel east with a caravan came, Jothan leapt at the chance.
In the meantime, a young Dwarf of the Eastern Mountains was seeking the path of service to Moradin; however, he lacked experience of the world, and as such he was sent by Moradin’s clergy to see more of the lands beyond the mountains, and thus be directed upon his true path.
And so Galin found himself in the trade caravan of Dolan of Thunderhead, en route to the Vin Valley and the city of Vinvale.
Returning to our first hero, mid-spring finds Jothan in the town of Vinvale. His time with the caravan being uneventful as well as without profit, he wanders the town in search of possible coin. He visits several of the local taverns and spends some time speaking with Roouran, the Wolven owner of the Roouran’s Folly Inn. Here he hears a bit about the town, and a rumor of a peasant being brought to see Lord Meras. Jothan spends the night at the Folly, and earns a few coins with his bardic skills.
The next day sees the arrival of the caravan bearing the Dwarf Galin from the Eastern Mountains. Inquiring of the caravan Master as to establishments which Dwarves would frequent, he was directed to the Broken Door, an establishment owned and operated by the Dwarven brothers Garrach and Kellich. Arriving there he takes space in the common room and seeks that luxury unavailable on the road- a bath. After this, he explores the establishments of the town, ending up at Roouran’s Folly where Jothan is attempting to entertain, with little luck.
While talking with Roouran, Galin buys a round of drink for himself, and has Roouran deliver one to Jothan; the beverage apparently does the trick, for soon Jothan is regaling the crowd with brave tales of Dwarven battles and heroism, to great success.
Later on, while Galin and Jothan are becoming acquainted, they see a tall Human enter the Folly; he is moderately tall, dark of skin and white of hair; this is Covan, the Majordomo of the Keep. He speaks briefly with Roouran, who points at Galin- this causes some misgivings, but he merely wishes to talk. He tells Galin that word came to Lord Meras that Galin sought experience of the world. This being the case, he (Lord Meras) may have a service to ask of him.
Inviting Jothan along at Covan’s suggestion that other stalwarts might be called for, the three travel to the Keep, where Lord Meras awaits. A brief encounter with Margan Breaker’s-son, owner of the local quarry, occurs, with the two being called before Meras soon after. Lord Meras tells them of an attack on one of the small settlements by what the lone survivor called “horrible giants”. It is requested of Galin and Jothan, and any they can get to accompany them, to find out what occurred, and either deal with it (if possible) or report their findings to Lord Meras so he can eliminate the threat.
With the offer of 100 gold each, the two accept, and are offered a free night at the Black Stag (the most expensive Inn in the town). Galin declines, preferring the floor of the Broken Door. With that the two go out on the town, and decide to participate in the weekly knife-throwing challenge at the Red Snake. With Dwarven Ale and luck, the two do well; Galin making it to the second-to-last round and witnessing the final challenger winning the contest against the master of the Inn, Ab-Loch.
Unfortunately for Jothan, he had no idea of the potency of the beverage purchased for him by Galin- this was Dwarven Ale, hellishly potent and mildly toxic to non-Dwarves; he managed to get halfway through his second Centaur-sized tankard before he passed out where he sat. An evil plot bloomed in Galin’s mind, and so, the next morning...
Dawn came with dull but blinding pain for Jothan. Never before had he experienced a hangover of this magnitude; everything his senses brought to him was accompanied by pain of varying kinds and intensities. As he absorbed this, he came to another realization; he was not alone. Looking about, he realized that there were two lovely women with him. These were Tana and Minnis, who said that he was their husband!
A bit of a shock, this, as he recalled very little of the previous night. He tries to recall, and is told by the girls that he had claimed that he was wealthy, that he desired them both, and had offered a great dowry (two new draft horses) to Tana’s father (Minna’s parents were deceased). At this point he asked them if they could get him some breakfast- Minna went downstairs to fetch it, while Tana remained with him.
Meanwhile, Galin awaited below- they were now at Roouran’s Folly, and Galin was enjoying every minute of the morning. He had asked (and paid) the girls to assist him with his prank, and they had agreed. He now received a status report from Minna, and prepared for his next move. At the suggestion of the dayside bartender Minna took a concoction referred to as “the cure” up to Jothan, instead of a breakfast- there was little chance of him eating, anyway.
A bit later, after the girls had explained where his clothing was (he threw up on himself and they were being washed), and where his harp was (they told him he gave it to the Temple of Azhora as a donation for the wedding). They also told him they knew nothing of his rapier (Galin had taken it, along with the harp and his other possessions for safekeeping). Naturally discomfited by this news, Jothan was still reeling when Galin came up, banging loudly on the door. Galin gleefully tortured his new friend with noise and corroborating statements as to the previous night’s events, and then left to give Jothan an hour to “recover”.
The time passed far more quickly than he would’ve liked, and soon Galin returned, with more noise and intimations of “food” such as salt-pork sandwiches which “we shuild eat whil’ ther’ still hot, so the grease don’ coagulate”. This led to an offer of “runny eggs”, which was the last straw for Jothan’s abused stomach- he retched, losing “the cure” and whatever little was still in him.
Soon after this, all was revealed- Jothan swore halfhearted vengeance, and they all went down to the bar to assist in a cure for what now ailed Jothan.
And thus ended run the First of the Levin’s Realm campaign.
