Well, as the asthma is still being a pain I've made an appointment to go into the allergist on Thursday to try and see what's up- more than likely its the same damn thing as usual, and I'll end up on a week of Prednisone to tell my immune system to 'Knock it the HELL off!'. In party news, I should get the rest of the cleaning done today (I hope), start the brine before I go to work, bake the cake, pre-prep the cheese-tray and snacks, carve the pumpkins (with help from [livejournal.com profile] ataramos, [livejournal.com profile] feezlekahn and [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain hopefully), get the beer and do whatever ELSE is left.

Tomorrow, I pick up the pumpkin pies and the cooking will prolly get into full swing at 2 or 3 o'clock- I have to check how long the damn bird will take! And then its partytime! I unfortunately will have to leave for work at 10:30, as I couldn't get the time off... But at least I'll be there for most of it. If people are still here when I have to go, I'll appoint a back-up host. ;)

I am SO glad today is trash day- we'll have room in the bin for the after-party trash this time!

Remember- 5 PM Wednesday! See you all there!

The Menu So Far

19# turkey
8# ham supplied by [livejournal.com profile] foeclan
8# mashed potatoes
Ciabatta bread
Cranberry sauce (Can-shaped!!)
Pumpkin Pie
Pies supplied by [livejournal.com profile] firecatmn
Chocolate frosted devil's food cake
Various chips and crackers with dips
Various cheeses
Relish tray (Celery, carrots and dill pickles)
Pasta supplied by [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain
Candied walnuts supplied by [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain
Pop (Dr. Pepper, Coke, Fresca black cherry, A&W root beer)
Juice (Apple and Cranberry)
CANDY!! (Supplied by me and [livejournal.com profile] mirrdae; Mirr got damn near enough to fill the cauldron on his own!)

If people wanna bring stuff to add, you can see we've a LOT so far- More pop wouldn't be bad, some diet pops and something like 7-Up or an orange pop would be good. :)

The title because I keep forgetting that info in OTHER posts of late...

Anyway- I've gotten the almost all of the remaining stuff I needed to get for the party, save that I still need a bag of ice for the brine, maybe a second for drinks. I've gotten a serious start on the cleaning, at least in the front room and kitchen, and I should have at least those areas done tonight. The back room and the bathroom might be started on tonight, but will likely get finished tomorrow. As for my room... I think the door will be shut again this year. :P

I'm going to see if I can't get my computer into its proper location on the other side of the chair tonight or tomorrow too, which means getting the cat-5 line run and having [livejournal.com profile] mirrdae get the connector-plugs onto the line- Hopefully not a big deal, though I'm not sure how much of a pain running the line will be. Other furniture-rearrangings include shifting the table from out front to the kitchen-nook, dealing with [livejournal.com profile] mirrdae's old TV-and-stand (I think the garage), and maybe shifting the seating about in the front room some.

Also, I got one more pumpkin, so unless more went bad there'll be six out front again this year.

And as a final note, I actually remembered and got my flu shot. :)

And as ANOTHER final note, YOU'RE INVITED, [livejournal.com profile] brellchild!!

As it turns out I have a 19# bird, so the stew will be off the menu as it was just added as a filler anyway. The ham, provided by [livejournal.com profile] foeclan is 8#, and should make up any gap in the vittles-supply. :)

I forgot to mention that there will be a supply of pop, as well as apple juice/cider, plus beer. I still have a few foodish odds and ends to pick up, but that'll happen Monday. Today at some point I'll be cleaning, and I don't know if that will go easy or hard. :P See the comments on the previous posts for at least one other thing being provided. Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain!

Oh, another credit: [livejournal.com profile] mirrdae supplied a shit-ton of candy for the cauldron for the munchkins who come by. :)

Okay. Just got the groceries for the party- a few things are left to get, like the gravy mix, the broth for the brine and a few other odds and ends. I have to thoroughly clean at least the public areas of the house as well. For those who read this that are coming, the menu is turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, beef stew, ham, and lots of snacks and munchies and pie and such as usual. :)

The bird will be a bit small this year, "only" 14# or so; unless someone knows where I can get a larger bird by tomorrow... And I already tried Ready Meats, no luck.

To those bringing stuff- Lemme know what you're supplying and when! Thanks.

The people I know are coming: [livejournal.com profile] firecatmn (and hubby), [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain (late), [livejournal.com profile] foeclan, [livejournal.com profile] feezlekhan (as far as I know), [livejournal.com profile] danshrugs, [livejournal.com profile] mirrdae, [livejournal.com profile] ataramos, [livejournal.com profile] khirsahdrgn (I think), [livejournal.com profile] zxizaraxii, Todd C, Iatro, and Scott L. (Late).

Maybes are: Mike and Heather M, Scott G, my brother Paul and likely a few people asked by those helping out, as well as people I can't think of at the moment... :P

People I've not asked, but SHOULD have: [livejournal.com profile] brellchild, Ian H. and Mike T. I'll see if I can't reach them before Wednesday. See you all there!

The party went pretty well, thbough it started a little rough when the prepwork kinda snowballed as people started to arrive. The turnout was a bit lighter than I'd hoped, but that's cool. [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain came over early and helped with the setup, supplied the pop and also made etuffe (sp?). [livejournal.com profile] firecatmn and hubby brought cookies, and [livejournal.com profile] foeclan, who had supplied the cheese, also brought some additional crackers. [livejournal.com profile] mirrdae supplied the bread.

I got favorable reviews for the food, though I got several comments that there was too much bay leaf in the sauce. I'll fix that next time around. I've a LOT of leftover meatballs, but thats not a bad thing- meals for the week! Both the caramel rolls and the peanut butter chocolate chip bars went over well.

In terms of loot, I got a leatherbound edition of Lewis Carroll and a Microcenter gift certificate from [livejournal.com profile] foeclan, a nice set of folding binoculars and a card from [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain, another gift certificate for Microcenter from [livejournal.com profile] mirrdae, the Blazing Saddles Special Edition from the family L, and the Speed and Apollo 13 DVDs from [livejournal.com profile] firecatmn and hubby. :)

To those who came, thanks for coming- I had a good time, even if my knees hate me. [livejournal.com profile] brellchild? You should stop by sometime- there are gifts here for you! CALL FIRST tho.

Here are some of the recipes I'm using for the Xmas party. Feel free to use them if you like! The marinera is a work-in-progress, however- it will need to be tailored to taste.

Meatballs )

Peanut Butter-Chocolate Chip Bars )

Easy Caramel Rolls )

I have TWO gifts left to get. TWO. Bob W. and [livejournal.com profile] danshrugs are the last- and I have NO ideas for either! Aaigh!

I hope they get me lists or something- Though the distribution of loot won't happen til the 6th, I AM running out of time. :P

So, I'll wrap the remaining few I've got to wrap in the morning, after I pick up a card and some other stuff from the store. Tonight I might do some game-writing, but it'll depend on my mood.

So... How does Saturday, January 6 sound? If its good I'll work on getting it off from work one way or the other! Lemme know what you think if you're one of the usual gang of party-attendees!

Specifically: [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain, [livejournal.com profile] foeclan, [livejournal.com profile] feezlekhan, [livejournal.com profile] danshrugs, [livejournal.com profile] mirrdae, [livejournal.com profile] khirsahdrgn, [livejournal.com profile] ataramos, [livejournal.com profile] zxizaraxii, [livejournal.com profile] firecatmn, Scott L. and family, Scott G., Mike M. and family, Mike T., Bob W., Ian H. and Todd C!

Let me know ASAP, please!

The party started slow, with the first guest, [livejournal.com profile] danshrugs showing up around 6 PM or so. People trickled in over the next couple of hours, and amazingly enough things timed out damn near perfectly- the turkey came out just as the potatos got done enough to be mashed. :) The stew followed shortly thereafter.

We had a fair bit of talk, and we played 'Its The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown', 'Monsters, Inc.' and a few episodes of the original 'Addams Family' series brought by E. ([livejournal.com profile] firecatmn's other half ). Later, there was a bit of horseplay with Nerf guns and pinwheel fireworks. Hee.

So, After all the work things came out well. Yay!

Though... Next year I hope for more help. This was hard, and expensive. The only real help I got this time around was [livejournal.com profile] ataramos, though [livejournal.com profile] khirsahdrgn did help out with some candy for the cauldron.

Oh- We had a VERY slow year for kids coming by. We had more than half the cauldron still full of candy at the end of the night. :P

Agh. I HATE cleaning! I've got the back room mostly excavated and I've done some serious rearranging of things. The trashbin outside is already absolutely packed, and I've not yet gotten to myu room! I don't know if I'll get that finished before the party, but we'll see. If I don't, I'll close the bloody door.

Right now I'm about to vacuum the back room and the couch (the loveseat is done), and then shower. I've gotten about as far as I can without consulting roomies on the little bits of crap still on the coffee table. I've still some tabletop-cleaning and dusting to do, and some cobweb-vacuuming too, but that won't take too long.

And a bit later tonight we're brining the turkey ( [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain is helping there ), cooking the meat for the stew and baking the cake. I pick up the pies tomorrow, along with the bread.

Also... We'll carve the 6 pumpkins I got tonight, and prolly decorate the front room a bit. Don't have a LOT of decorations, so I'll prolly pick a few things up when I go to the store.

Guh. I REALLY have to work at keeping the place picked up so I don't have to go through this shit again!
realsorien: (Default)
And the cleaning continues apace. THe kitchen is pretty much done save for minor rearranging of stuff that can, if necessary, wait til after the party. The front room is done save for vacuuming and decorating- I have to move a computer monitor too, but thats no big deal. The bathroom is finished as well.

That leaves... THE BACK ROOM. O.o

I am NOT looking forward to this. It prolly has to be done at least partly in tandem with my bedroom... And my bedroom is easily WORSE than the back room.

I have a few groceries to pick up it turns out- not a lot, and not all for the party. I'll prolly get 'em on the way home from the game tonight (Sunday).

Right now I'm at work for 9 hours due to Daylight Savings. Not a biggie, really. My neck has been going off for the last few days tho... I dunno if I slept wrong or if we've got weather coming- I bloody well HOPE not; I'll have enough food to feed a small army!

Oh, one lil bit of weirdness. [livejournal.com profile] ataramos noticed that the furnace wasn't running, even though it was cold enough for it to kick in- I fiddled with everything I could think of: changing the batteries in the thermostat, checking the breakers, checking the power switch on the furnace... Nothing. Ended up calling Reliant out to check it; We got it running, but it might be that there is a wiring problem... Because it came back on when the outlet-breaker in the bathroom was reset. Weird.

I've gotten the groceries (most of 'em) for the Halloween/Thanksgiving party purchased. I've got the turkey (19#), the meat for the stew, the potatos and veggies and all that, and the pop and beer. I have started the cleaning, and THAT is a helluva job... But I've had help. The parents today, [livejournal.com profile] ataramos and whomever else I can dragoon into it Saturday and Monday.

Sunday I'll be off gaming at the last of the Traveller D20 runs, and since Scott L. was good enough to get me some info I'll be working on finishing the synopsis tonight and tomorrow whilst at work.

On Monday... The last of the cleaning will happen, and also the food prep will start. I'll be making a Devils Food Cake, brining the turkey (with help from [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain, cubing the snack-cheeses and getting the meat cooked for the stew. :) Also, I may do some decorating, and we'll prolly carve the 6 pumpkins I've got. I still have to get ice for the brine and for chilling the pop, and I need to order the pies (pumpkin!)

I've got MOST of the candy I want for supplying the door-munchkins, and [livejournal.com profile] mirrdae is kindly gonna supply some more.

Final touches will be done on Tuesday before the party- All the fiddly bits that make it right, as well as cooking the bird, assembling the stew and making the mashed potatos (eight POUNDS!). :)

Hopefully, a good time will be had by all.

Well, its here. Whee!

My Xmas party on the 19th (Sunday) went quite well- Much lootage was distributed and received, and food was devoured in plenty. :) I got a pile of DVDs, which was exactly what I wanted, and also some Godzilla figurines (2" tall each, roughly). I also got (KickASS!!) a bottle of Banratty Mead, from Ireland, along with the word that a local liquor chain is now importing it! Lessee... What else? Oh, a gift certificate that contributed to the purchase of the special edition of Lord of the Rings- Return of the King, and a Drawing of my old character Savannah by [livejournal.com profile] feezlekahn.

As to other events- The Vanguard game took place on the 18th, with all players other than Atara, who is back home til the 10th, being present. I think we did alright, and kindasorta beat the bad guys= we threw a '21' at Dave [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain, in that we captured rather than massacring one of the villains, but all in all things went okay.

He's titled the next run 'Devoured'...

What a pleasant thought...

I volunteer Doc Chimera for the devour-ee!

Well, its the week before Halloween, and all through the house, shit is piled and stacked and shifting like the drifting sands of the Sahara, but nowhere NEAR as attractively. (Sigh) The CLEANSING HATH BEGUN! Oy. I started today with the (EEYEWW!) Bathroom... Yuck. I'll finish in there today (Thursday) with the tub and vanity, then move on to scrubbing the kitchen floor. After that is the REAL fun- my bedroom and the back living room. [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain gets to do the front living room, the kitchen countertops and HIS room. The basement? Well, the Dwellers therein get to do what they do- its not really gonna be seen.

The bad part is I get to (finally) replace the bathroom faucet, probably tomorrow. blah. Lissen to me bitch! (giggle) Its in this teeny nightmarish space that I get to pretzelyze myself to reach. That, and I have to do the leaves in the yard, too. Gah.

Tons of cleanup, and a new roomie arrives friday. OOO! Money! (grin) That will DEFINITELY help.

Now to the good part- the party itself!

We've got about 20+ people coming. A usual mob for the yearly gathering, and we have the usual huge spread for 'em too- this year, the Halloween Party is combined with my traditional yearly Turkey Feed; because of MFF and the actual Thanksgiving holiday, the logistics of running a T-giving party in there as well was getting near-impossible for me.

The Menu so far: 21# roast Turkey, 6# bone-in Ham, a HUGE pot of mashed potatos, some other veggie to be determined, crusty bread, various beverages and of course, Pumpkin and Apple Pie! Whee! There will also be candy to swipe from the cauldronfull we use for the trick-or-treaters. :)

Mmmm. Death by gluttony... huhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuh...
