This was both an eventful and uneventful period. I probably should have posted a few times in there, but one of the things I'll mention here really ruined my desire to do so. The 21st was a Monday, and marked the start of a bit of drama with a friend. That's been totally worked out to my knowledge, and the matter is settled. However, Monday the 21st was ALSO the start of my latest bout of insomnia. It was one of my longer bouts, and it finally 'broke' yesterday. 14 days of getting 2 to 4 hours of fitful sleep really, really sucks.

The 27th was supposed to be the next Sunday Group meeting, but one of the players was sick so we elected to skip rather than spread the plague.

On the 1st, my dad went into the hospital. He had an intestinal blockage, and was having some pretty severe pain. They checked him out thoroughly, and he went into surgery on the third. It went very well, and while it had been scheduled to last three to four hours he was out in less than one. As it turns out, the blockage was a sort-of skin flap- damage left from when he had a burst appendix as a little kid. So this problem has been around for more than sixty years, and just finally became dangerous.

However, despite the surgery itself going well, the recovery was NOT so good. He had a fairly severe reaction to some of the drugs used, and was disoriented and hallucinating to the point of violence. Now my dad is in his late seventies, but he's STILL a big guy- it took multiple orderlies to restrain him. To make it worse, he couldn't wear his C-Pap machine, so he basically wasn't sleeping for days on end. Fortunately, by Saturday the 5th he was fine, though wobbly. He actually looks better than he has for some time. I expect he'll be released in the next few days.

Saturday was the second run of the Dresden game, and that went well. I think it'll be a fun game, even though I have to agree that the rules at times are overwritten and are badly organized. His comment was that 'they read like stereo instructions!' For the food, I made from-scratch pancakes which were actually pretty good, other than the fact that I made easily twice as much batter as I needed. I think I still have one meal's worth left.

Sunday I saw Dad again in the morning, and other than getting REAL sick of the hospital he was fine. The insomnia finally broke, and I slept pretty well after I got home. Of course, it was also the anniversary of my losing Luna; never a good day for me.

I've got a bunch of writing for the various games to do- two Old West runs and the Horror run for the Sunday Group, and I'm going to try and turn my notes from the Dresden game into something readable as well. On top of that I've started a new series of short stories called 'The Believers'. They're urban fantasy effectively, and I think I might have something publishable in these. :)

That's about it for recent events.

Yesterday I took a trip to the emergency room for what turned out (fortunately) to not be an emergency. Around 4 PM or so I started having abdominal pain- it felt like the burning sensation that you get when a muscle is overtaxed, but rather more intense. I figured it was gas, and did the 'grin and bear it' bit. Around 6 or so I decided to lie down in the hopes that it would let up. It did, by about 8:30... Almost completely. Then it started to hurt in the lower right quadrant of my abdomen- this time a sharper sensation, more like a strained or pulled muscle.

Notably, I've never had pains quite like this before, so I went online to look to see what matched the symptoms- as it turns out, the symptoms were near identical to appendicitis. I know there was a fair chance that it was nothing, just BAD gas or constipation, but appendicitis is a very stupid thing to take a chance on, as one of its 'complications' is death.

So, I called [livejournal.com profile] foeclan and asked if he could drive me to the ER. He could, and we headed to HCMC (Hennepin County Medical Center). I lucked out and was in an examination room in 15 minutes flat. I ended up beng examined, getting X-Ray'd and my first ultrasound (Congratulations! Your gallbladder will be a boy!).

It was determined to be a fairly foul case of constipation; notably the worst I've ever had. They basically told me to get more fiber in my diet and to drink this 10 ounce bottle of... Red stuff. It was okay until the aftertaste hit- Gods, THAT was bad. And if you burp it COMES BACK. O.o

Anyway, things came out alright in the end, pun intended, and I seem okay now. The only bad things are that ths stuff they gave me seems to have been bottled diarrhea, and I woke with a MASSIVE headache, which after ibuprofin, tea and food has passed.

I refuse to be either embarrassed or chagrined by any of this. If it HAD been appendicitis, it's extremely dangerous.

So how was your day? ;)

As reported here briefly by my friend and roomie [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain, I'm still alive. Blah. I'm certain it was the flu, as were the folks at HCMC (Hennepin County Medical Center( where i received 4 pints of saline, an antinausea and one or two other unpleasant tests...

I really, really hate being sick. Especially this close to a major trip. Ugh. Right now, I'm sitting up and watching the Science channel begin repeating the shows I watched much earlier, and typing this in. My quilt, akin to Linus' blanket, is in the dryer and I'll probably head to bed soon after its out.

Other than that, I'm alive. If folk who actually check my LJ can pass it along on FurryMUCK that I'm alive, I'd appreciate it- I'm not real up on company and conversation. :P

If I feel better I might log on tonight, dunno though. I AM sure I'm not working tonight.

Yesterday, for a while I felt better. Then, around 2-3 PM, I threw up again. yick. I decided that enough was too much, and called my dad- all the roomies were either not home or also sick)- and had him take me over to Unity Hospital.

The did the blood workups and ran a liter of saline solution into me via an IV, and gave me an antinausea the same way. Whee. So, because I was falling apart emotionally (til that point, I'd slept very little since Monday), I got so be real jittery, and had chills and shakes. I was (as usual with needles being involved) hyperventilating as well.

However, it helped. I'm pretty much better now. Still working on 'real' food. The closes to solid I've had is jello, chicken noodle soup and saltine crackers. I'll try something closes to normal later tonight/this morning.
