This past Saturday was our regular gaming run, currently Pathfinder, and the story is 'Rise of the Runelords'. As was the first run of this campaign, it was a lot of fun... Aside from my damn near falling asleep during it. I was beat, not having slept well beforehand. I wasn't alone though, two other players were ALSO falling-down tired apparently. Regardless, I'm having a good time with Arath, my barbarian catfolk, and really look forward to what comes next!

We were down one player, Dave, who is our regular GM- Rise of the Runelords is 'filler' while he gets his next campaign set to run. Its giving him the opportunity to actually PLAY in a game, rather than having to run.

Our Story Continues! )

Look! Another update! (gasp!)

Anyway, its just a little one. I got the Xmas tree down today... Which is some kind of record for me, I think. The worst I've ever been was one year I took it down in April. O.o Usually its the last week of January or sometime in February that I get around to it.

As to the housework, like as not I'm going to start painting in the front room. It might be the biggest room that I have to do, but it's also simple, with very little do to in terms of patchwork and stain coverage. From there... Either my bedroom, the front hallway or the bathroom.

Beyond that, life is quiet. I did go over to Pawn America on Tuesday- they have a 2 DVDs for 3 bucks deal, so I got some new films. One of them, Black Mask 2, is enjoyably bad, but it skips and freezes a lot. So, I'll probably exchange it. I did get a few GOOD movies- Shadow of the Vampire, which is sort-of a biopic about Max Schrek, who played the lead in the silent-era Nosferatu, and Gangs of New York, which is just cool.

Tonight I return to running my Pathfinder game, and I THINK I'll be finishing up the current story. I dunno if I'll continue running it, or try something else, or if someone else wants to run something- We'll figure it out. I do have more to run in the world, but I wanna see what the players want to do.

Was interesting. I got home from work to find that the cable box was acting up. I called Comcast and tried what they told me to do (what the robot told me anyway) and went to bed. I didn't sleep well, but that wasn't unexpected- I'm certain the current source of my sleep issues is allergies, especially since I had a scratchy throat from drainage all day yesterday. I got up, and like I've been sort of expecting for a while now, the cable box was dead. In fact, it totally died while I talked to Comcast. The only real annoying part of this is that we lost all the stuff we had recorded on it, so I decided to just get the new box when I did the running for the day.

As I was planning on making dinner for the group while character creation went, I decided to pick up a new box whilst out. Me and [livejournal.com profile] zxizaraxii headed out about 3:30, planning to pick up [livejournal.com profile] foeclan was also ready, and using two vehicles we headed over to Cub. Groceries went quick, and I started cooking as soon as we got there. While I made the marinera-and-chicken sauce, [livejournal.com profile] phineas made garlic-cheese bread. Food was devoured and we went to character creation for the Anuris campaign.

At the moment I have five players, four of whom have mostly-completed characters. I'll edit this later to add names if people come up with 'em today.

[livejournal.com profile] zxizaraxii is playing a Sarind (lizard man) Barbarian/Rogue.

[livejournal.com profile] foeclan is a Dwarven Bear Shaman Druid. He DID have a name, but I can't recall it at the moment. :P

[livejournal.com profile] phineas is a Locin (wolfguys) Cleric of Ah-Hur.

[livejournal.com profile] feezlekahn is a Human Fighter.

It was a fun night, and people finally headed off to their homes or bed at about 12:30. I was planning to stay up as usual, but that's when the fatigue said 'fuck you!' and my brain failed at about 1:30 to 2:30 somewhere. I slept like a stone, and I woke about 10:30. The start of the campaign looks to be about 2 weeks off, and my last player, [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain, will get together with me on Monday or next week sometime to get his character ready. All in all, a good day.

Okay, tonight is going to be character setup for at least some of the characters in my coming Pathfinder campaign. I've done a little bit of cleaning, and I'll be making chicken-spaghetti for the meal, with good crusty bread. Woo!

In other news, I've gotten all my windows covered over with cardboard, so my room is now DARK. I'm hoping that this, plus the cleaning of the bedding and a few other things will finally get my sleeping back on schedule. The only bit I can't control is allergies- that seems to be the bugaboo that caused all the problems, and its something from outside. So, that bit I have to live with.

Other than that, my check will come today with some overtime on it, and my NEXT check will have more overtime and holiday pay to boot- this ought to finish any and all catchup that I need to do. Yay!

Okay. Yesterday was my birthday, and a bunch of people were nice enough to throw me a nice little party. We had sirloin steak on the grill, baked potatoes and steamed broccoli for the meal, and I got some beer for myself because dammit, its my birthday and I wanted a beer or two. :)

[livejournal.com profile] joshuwain was the prime mover behind the party, with [livejournal.com profile] foeclan, [livejournal.com profile] phineus and our friend Todd supplying food and labor. [livejournal.com profile] khirsahdrgn and [livejournal.com profile] feezlekahn were also in attendance. Thanks to you all!

A few more details about my campaign were hammered out, and the creation of characters has begun. Some of the players and I will be getting together on Friday, and whomever is left I'll work with on (probably) Monday to get things squared. Mostly it will be me approving builds and back-stories. Once I have all that information, I'll go back into the adventure and tailor some of the bits, and I'll also distribute the goodies to the characters- additional cash and the ever-popular magic items.

As once again I didn't sleep well yesterday, I've taken a couple of cold-caps to make certain I get at least some sleep today. I'll finish covering my windows later this week, when I can get together with the folks and get the black foamboard and brads (teeny nails) to put it up with. The lack of light will definitely help. I'm also stripping my bed and remaking it before I crash this morning with fresh bedding and such. That sometimes helps as well.

First, I still think the best Charlie Daniel's Band song is 'Uneasy Rider'. ;)

On to other things. Tomorrow we return to the Horror Campaign, and the terrors and travails of Our Heroes. I'm WAY behind on writeups, but at least I'm only back one for Horror. I'll be loaning my Dresden Files gamebooks to Scotty so he can look 'em over, and I suspect that we might get a game-shift out of this- time will tell.

As to my OWN game, work continues. I've gotten the basics down for the adventure, and all of the city NPC's that I needed roughed out. I should have a vague map of the city, but I can fake that. In the adventure I've started the sorting out of what monsters are where and what they all have, as well as getting the experience listings set. I need a printer badly, soon.

Other than that, life continues. I cheated today for sleep, taking a couple of cold caps- I DID sleep, but I dislike the aftereffects- muzziness and waking even slower than I usually do. But I did sleep. Woot!

Now all that remains is actually finding my way to Scotty's new place in Eagan. ;)

Woot!

Went out today with [livejournal.com profile] foeclan, [livejournal.com profile] feezlekahn, [livejournal.com profile] khirsahdrgn and [livejournal.com profile] phineus to the Source, followed by Mac's (A little fish & chips place) and Cub (grocery store for those who don't know). I got a GM screen for Pathfinder... And I'm impressed. Its set up like a GOOD hardbound book-cover, solid and glossy, with good hingepoints and four panels of tables and data. Me likee! And [livejournal.com profile] foeclan got me the Bestiary 2 for my birthday! Thank you!

And this means more work on the game awaits. :)

I realized sometime yesterday that I had a HUGE flaw in my first adventure- why the frak is this crap happening in the first place? There has to be a reason, after all, and 'just because' ain't gonna cut it. So last night at work I sat down and tried to puzzle it out, and viola, I kan haz backstory! I know what happened why and where, who to and what came out of it now, and I also know more about exactly what my PC's will be facing. Woot!

I've also thought a bit more on magic and treasure- I think I know how I'll deal with the initial magic the PC's will have (starting out at 3rd level they WILL have some stuff), and I think I know who three of my PC's are for sure. I have to get answers from some others, but we'll see what comes of my plan for a mixed Saturday Group / Sunday Group party.

In other news, I made spaghetti and meatballs for me and [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain yesterday, and I have a snack-level amount left for later today. We yakked about the game some, and that is partly what got me thinking on some of this stuff.

Also, I'm getting a shift of overtime this week, which will appear on my next check (next Friday), which will help finish off some bills. I also got my birthday gift from the folks- my train fare to Midwest Furfest is paid, so I'll get the tickets later today. They're also covering the taxi fare from and to Union Station.

I may also get more overtime next week- there's a hole in the schedule that needs filling.

What's left for the game? finishing the roughs for the encounters, getting the monsters charted out, doing the same for the loot and experience, and some polish work on the world and city. Oh, and I suppose I really ought to stat out the major NPC's as well

This link leads to a .doc file with the 25,000 year history of my gameworld, Anuris. Its far-reaching but mostly general in scope, to give a feel for what things are like. :)

Still having trouble sleeping when I should unfortunately. I couldn't sleep today during the day, and ended up sleeping in the afternoon and evening uneasily. I did get a bit more campaign work done- I have a timeline of events from -25,000 years back to the starting point of the game! I'll probably post it as a .doc on my FA site, and link it here as I'll lose the tabs that give it the Date/Event format.

More and more I miss being able to type at work. It would help if I could get a printout of the stuff I've done so far, because then I could still build on things... O well. Maybe this week I'll see what I can do about new ink cartridges for the printer.

That's about it. I get to get ready to go to work shortly.

Progress!

Despite my sleep schedule being utterly borked, I've made progress on the Anuris campaign. I've gotten most of the city NPC's that I'll absolutely need written up as far as I need them (personality and appearance, ballpark level and alignment, etc), and I've got a growing idea what the area is like geographically. Its on a western coastline, and the city itself was built next to a large bay. Over time, the bay was partially closed with stone fill and cement to make a defensible safe harbor, and significant piers and anchorages were built. The settlement is more than 200 years old, and has had a succession of rulers. The current leader is Baron Carti, who has ruled for the last decade.

Choras is an important place, being a port city and is defended as such. Impressive shoreside defenses include strong city walls and other fortifications, while to the seaside the harbor is defended with massive watchtowers and a dwarven-forged chain gate that can be raised across the harbor inlet, right at keel-tearing depth.

Also, I've gotten the first 10 pages of the starting adventure written. Woot! At this pace I should be ready to start right about when I want, at the end of the month. Maybe earlier!

Aaigh...

I'm up to 9 pages of NPC's, and this is just for the city. I have about a paragraph for each, as well as their alignment, class(es) and level(s). Ugh. I still have a bunch to go, then I can get into trying to map the city, harbor and local area, and really get going on the adventure itself. Ugh.

It'll be nice once the city is done. Its probably the hardest part of starting a game, making the 'home city' area. Oh- the city is called Choras (pronounced Kore-Az), and is a moderate-sized city with a large harbor; centuries back this harbor was created artificially with stony fill to partly close the originally much-wider mouth of the bay. Two huge towers rise on either side of the entrance, and massive chains can be winched into place, just under the water to close off the passage if invaders approach. It is a trade city, and a destination for merchant caravans wishing to move their wares across the sea.

I think I'm done for the morning. I'll do more tonight.

Here is the basic rules for character generation for the Anuris campaign, as well as the divinities of the Civilized Races. Obviously, there will be more to come. :)

Okay, here's a goodly chunk of character creation. PLEASE give comments- I don't think these are overpowered in any particular way, but I might miss things and comments are always useful. Edit- I added some more details and fixed a few things on 05/10/11!

Anuris: History and Races )
realsorien: (Default)
Like I said, I'm contemplating running a Pathfinder game. Its moved past the idea stage, and I've started worldbuilding. The world is named Anuris, and is a world where recorded Civilization has existed for at least 20,000 years. There were going to be five races playable as PC's plus some halfbreed options, but I've decided on a sixth. The races are, in order of their appearance through the history of the world:

Akim- Winged lion people, once the greatest masters of Empire.

Dwarves- Dour drinkers of ale and builders of mountain fortresses.

Elves- Second oldest of the Five Civilized Races, and least populous of them all; a dying people.

Humans- Versatile conquerors of all but time.

Locin- Canid tricksters, the youngest of the Five Races.

The other playable race is the Sarind- Reptilian dwellers on the edges of civilized lands, their age as a race could be as great as the Akim.

The available halfbreeds are:

Half-Elves, a blending of Human and Elven blood.

Half-Orcs, the offspring of violent intercourse (usually) between humans and the bestial Orcs.

Half-Celestials, those blessed with the blood of the divine or their servants.

Half-Infernals, the offspring of mortal and demonaic matings.

The last two are created as per the normal rules as members of one of the other races, and will gain special abilities (and perhaps frailties as well) later in the game. Only Humans and Elves (and Humans and Orcs) can interbreed without magical assistance. In a later post I'll put up more on each race and the world itself. :)

Oh- and I picked up the Bestiary and the Game Mastery Guide today- I dipped into my MFF money as I thought it was a worthy thing to do. Also, I should be at Convergence this year! I've put in for the time off (as I didn't get my birthday off), and I'll be preregistering with the money I had left after getting the gamebooks.

I'm seriously thinking about running a Pathfinder campaign. I had an idea last night, and I jotted a bunch of things down already. I'm thinking 4 or 5 players, and I know who I wanna ask initially already. It'll start with everyone being 3rd level, and it's going to be a fairly cinematic game... I hope.

Twenty thousand years is how long Civilization has held sway upon Anuris; twenty thousand years where Men and Others strove against each other and the darkness within and without. Heroes lived and died, and the common folk led their lives with the hope that they would never see the adventures of such beings.

In those long eons, civilizations of many races rose and fell; Civilization as a concept though lasted throughout. And now... After so very long a time, there is the sense that change is coming- whether the End Times of the world are upon us, or simply a new Age, is unknown. But the Seers are uneasy, and the rulers of the Five Races have no calm rest.

Now is the time for heroes once again, and we watch and wait for what shall come...

That there is the intro. Not quite the Hyperborean Chronicles, but good enough. :)

I think that I'm gonna make an eye appointment relatively soon. The fact that I couldn't read the teeny print on the bank website, and the trouble I've had since I got my current glasses kinda convinces me that something's up. I DON'T want bifocals, but... Fuck if I wouldn't rather be able to see properly! Also, while I was fine through the con other than the coughing from my stupid asthma, it might now be turning into something else. I was going to go in to the allergist anyway, but this means I'll try to get in tomorrow rather than just getting an appointment when I can. I'm betting its just an opportunistic cold developing cos the asthma has been kicking my ass since the illness I had three weeks before the con. I have to say I'm gettin' pretty tired of getting sick. :P

Other than that, I spent a bit of my remaining con money (Yes, even with the bank stupidity I still had money allocated left for fun stuff) and got the Pathfinder book. With my discount and the sale I got at $35 new, free shipping. It retails at $50. Woot. :)

Saturday I'm considering starting my Xmas shopping. Friday is a NO EFFING WAY day for me and shopping- I hate stores to start with without rabid bargain-hunting swarms. I'm aiming for about $10 per gift, maybe a bit more for the family ones. Anyone who's on my list (you know who you are!) lemme know what you want! For me... All I want is LOTS of Barnes & Noble gift cards.

This being the first day home, not much is going on. I'll go back to work at midnight, work two days and its Thanksgiving. I'll be at my folks Thursday evening, and that's about all that's going on.
realsorien: (Default)
We (me, [livejournal.com profile] ataramos, [livejournal.com profile] mirrdae and [livejournal.com profile] zxizaraxii) had Papa Murphy's pizza for dinner, and a long rambling talk about gaming, Pathfinder and Dungeons & Dragons in specific. As is usual for me with such talk, I started coming up with character ideas. When I got to work, one of these had gotten pretty solid in my head, and bits of backstory started to develop. I decided to bang it in to the laptop, and by the end of the night I had 9 1/2 pages! This is the most I've free-written ever! With the game writeups I'm working from notes and in-game events; with this it was all straight out of my head with nothing from any game anywhere. I'm nowhere near done, and I may end up tearing it apart and completely rewriting it, but we'll see where it goes. Its just a Swords & Sorcery piece, but those are a lot of fun- who knows, maybe it'll be publishable if I can file off the few serial numbers that might be showing. ;)

Anyway, Here's what I've done so far. I DO want comments!
