ACTA in a Nutshell –

What is ACTA?  ACTA is the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement. A new intellectual property enforcement treaty being negotiated by the United States, the European Community, Switzerland, and Japan, with Australia, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Mexico, Jordan, Morocco, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and Canada recently announcing that they will join in as well.

Why should you care about ACTA? Initial reports indicate that the treaty will have a very broad scope and will involve new tools targeting “Internet distribution and information technology.”

What is the goal of ACTA? Reportedly the goal is to create new legal standards of intellectual property enforcement, as well as increased international cooperation, an example of which would be an increase in information sharing between signatory countries’ law enforcement agencies.

Essential ACTA Resources

  • Read more about ACTA here: ACTA Fact Sheet
  • Read the authentic version of the ACTA text as of 15 April 2011, as finalized by participating countries here: ACTA Finalized Text

Once again I had a financial disaster. This time though it's totally my fault. While paying bills about a month back I managed to somehow not write down two REAL big payments... And between that and the fees I far more than wiped out my buffer. So I'm in the hole. BUT. With no help from anyone, I've solved it- It'll involve using the credit card, but I'll repay that in two months (thank ghod for that!). In addition, to prevent this from ever happening again I'm (finally, my fault totally for not doing it earlier) getting overdraft protection on my bank account; it wouldn't have prevented the mistake, but it WOULD have saved me the fees- which ended up surpassing the amounts I failed to write down.

I'm getting Quicken when I can afford it (this weekend), and setting it up synched with my online banking. I've also revised my bank record so that it's better arranged- I plan to keep using it as an additional record of transactions.

On top of that... While I won't have the $500 I wanted stashed away, this weekend I should be able to sock away $100-$200. When it comes, I'll add the Property Tax Rebate money to that, and I'll be adding cash til its at the level (or above) that I want.

Yes, I learn slow. But t least I can survive it.

Also... I'm not upset or mad at this point. I've gotten over it, and learning that it WAS my fault and not someone using my cash card is actually somewhat of a relief.

So there it is. Hopefully I'll get stuff straightened quickly.

I felt good today emotionally, despite feeling a bit out of sorts from the still-lingering remains of whatever illness it was that I had. The game went well ([livejournal.com profile] joshuwain's Vanguard campaign), and we did serious harm to the baddies. Things broke up about 9:45, and I headed home. I dozed for about 45 minutes, then got ready for work. As I prepped to leave I decided to check the mail.

Here's where things went to shit.

I had two of the 'non-sufficient funds' notification cards, one which mailed on the 15th, the other on the 16th. Between them there were a total of $130.00 in overdraft fees. I honestly don't know how it happened, tho there is one other thing that could have done it, and THAT was in the mail too- my paycheck.

When I was sick, I talked to my boss at Baker Center, and he said that the sick days could be treated as vacation time. I said 'cool!' as I'd expected to be just screwed. Well, someone dropped the ball as those three days of pay weren't in my check! So I get to talk to Cliff and Payroll on Monday to try and straighten it out somewhat. I'm NOT happy right now.

More and more I'm getting tired of being fucking kicked just as I think I'm able to get back up. :P

I may talk to someone about a loan to help out... I dunno. I'm just tired of this. I'm also once again considering the refinance-option for the house. THIS time it would only be a temporary thing, but it'd at least get rid of the credit card payments at the price of an increase in the mortgage. That would be less than the credit payments at least.

I really hate this.

Bleah.

Lovely birthday present I got last night- A note from my account manager saying that my vacation time was not gonna be allowed. Naturally, I panicked. A LOT. I'd stand to lose to the ether roughly $750 for varied reasons if this happened!

So, first I called the account manager. He said it was the Area Manager's call, and it was out of his hands, and we could talk in the morning. I then called the Area Manager, who got me calmed down. When he found out my situation, and the fact that a) my account manager knew, or should have known I was going outstate and had purchased airfare, b) said manager hadn't informed the staff at the account about a number of things, he told me not to worry and that my vacation was approved.

I'll prolly end up working the Monday I return, and the Tuesday I also took off, but I'd rather that then the alternative.

Guh. I HATE stress.

But... I get to go to the Black Forest Inn for dinner with the folks tonight- that's something. :)

And [livejournal.com profile] ataramos made me a cake. :)

Saturday, I woke at 3 PM, still kinda sick but feeling better. I was looking forward to just kinda sitting around, trying to get a bit closer to healthy before work. I dragged my tail out of bed, and went to brush my teeth... just after I started, the phone rings, and I run to answer it, mouth full of toothpaste.

Me- Herrowff?
Account Manager (AM)- Mike? Can you come in?
Me- Now? I broffhing moi teef!
AM- As soon as you can- nobody showed up to work for second- as long as you can, and I'll be in to relieve you, so you won't have to work the overnight.
Me- Uh... I gueff. I can be vere avout pffiveish?
AM- Okay, good.
Me- I'll work fil one?
AM- You might as well get some extra hours...
Me- Sthill gettin' over thith cole!
AM- Okay. Thanks!

I hang up, finish brushing, wash my hair and get dressed. I make it into work in less than a half hour from the time of the call, at 4 PM.

As I walk into the office, the fellow I'm relieving is on the phone... Not a good sign.

It turns out that there is a crew scrubbing the lowest level of one of the two parking ramps which are part of the account, and they managed to blow one of the sprinkler heads by parking their compressor-unit with its exhaust directly under the head, thus setting it off as soon as it hit the trigger temp of 160 degrees f. So, the fire system is discharging all over the place from the blown head. Joy.

Note that we're getting NO alarms.

So, I take over, call my supervisor (the fella who had me come in in the first place) and the building on-call engineer and haul ass to the ramp to see what the situation is. I confirm it, realize that I have the wrong number for the engineer, haul ass BACK to the office, tell the engineer what's up, he says hes on his way and I go back to the ramp.

(Pant-pant-pant)

The engineer arrives and looks it over. he sends me back to the office to put the fire system on test, which I do, and then we spend time digging around to try and find the number for the company to repair the damn head.

We had to actually get one of the tags from the sprinkler room, cos it wasn't in either the security office, nor the engineering office. GAH.

Eventually, things got sorted and the night went quietly thereafter- but damn, I'm getting tired of having to deal with morons...

I got home just after one, and basically idled all night thereafter.

Well... A few days back I posted about how I'd put a fire out at work. I kinda felt proud about it, despite it being a relatively minor fire. I figured that I'd either hear nothing about it, or get a minor pat-on-the-back.

Surprise!

Instead, the Account Supervisor told me this morning that the client was wanting me off the account, that she thought that the guard staff was incompetent, that I should have called my manager, and that I shouldn't have talked to the tenant to get the water I used to put the fire out.

I am SO tired of dealing with total FUCKTARDS...

And now, one of the honchos from my company has to come out and 'smooth things over' with the bitch-in-charge. To make it worse, on my day off there was a break-in and theft of multiple computers.

I don't know if I'll still be at that account by the end of the week. And truth, if they're this fucking stupid, I'm pretty sure I don't want to be.

Rule of thumb- FIRE BAD. Putting fire out with no damage, GOOD. You'd think they'd be able to figure that one out.

Whee. Last night, actually this morning FUN struck once again at work. Some retarded asshat started a fire in one of the outside trash cans for me to find. Joy. So, I got to run back and forth with coffeepots full of water from a nearby suite (luckily they had a door to the outside) to put the damn thing out.

To give an idea of HOW cold it was- the lid on the coffeepot FROZE SHUT as soon as I took it outside, and my shoes were freezing to the ground pretty much instantly when I stepped in spilled water. O.o

But... I got it out. It wasn't a big deal, but if I'd not had the people in that suite on hand, I'd have had to call the fire department- I couldn't find an extinguisher anywhere nearby.

Bleah.

Grrr....

I wanna beat either a) the manager who said it was fixed or b) the payroll department, with a bat. Why? Because for the THIRD time they've managed to eff up my check. A few weeks back I took 3 days off. Also in that week I worked the Monday overnight, which is my normal day off, to cover a hole in the schedule. being nice. Despite being told THREE TIMES that is was supposed to be paid time off, the check, when it came, was for only 24 hours.

Ugh. Move to irked.

Now, I can understand a goof, but this was pretty stupid. Still, I was nice, and talked to my manager about it as soon as I found the problem. He said, no problem, its fixed! Right...

It was supposed to be in the dispatch office for me to pick up Monday. Nope.

Move to Annoyed.

It finally appears at the dispatch office Wednesday night, and I find this out as I come on shift. Grr. So, I stop in and get it this morning.

And they fucked it up AGAIN. Shorted me 8 hours.

And I am officially PISSED. How can they be this incredibly stupid? Payroll (and a manager, I'd expect) should be able to do BASIC MATH.

AAAAAGH!
