I had MEAT today for a late birthday gift! [livejournal.com profile] foeclan, [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain, [livejournal.com profile] feezlekhan and I went out, originally headed to my favorite resturant, the Black Forest Inn; however, it was closed for Memorial day, so a second location was picked: Fogo De Chao, which is a Brazillian steak house. Check it out at www.fogodechao.com ! Anyway, we had Meat. MEAT. MEAT! And it was good. The best resturant that I'll never be able to afford myself. ;)

I also received the movie 'Night Watch' from Joshuwain- Great movie. :) Thanks guys!

Its been a while since I last updated the movielist, so I'm reposting it here. Why? Why not? ;) Its behind a cut cos its pretty long. 285 total, 42 in VHS right now. 'Yellow Submarine' is marked with an asterisk because I can't seem to find the silly thing. :P

I decided to watch 'Van Helsing', just to see what it was like, seeing as I have the movie...

Oboy.

How could a movie this bad actually make it to production? The only two good actors were Jackman and his sidekick, the female lead... Wow. I totally didn't care about her or her final disposition, the villian gave cartoons a bad name...

I could go on for some time. I will say I liked the design for their version of the Frankenstein's Monster, and of the werewolves... And the CGI and sets were at least okay. Beyond that, ugh.

Well- Sunday was good, other than the rain. I picked up a chuck roast on Saturday and turned it, along with veggies and such over to [livejournal.com profile] foeclan for dinner Sunday; on Sunday itself we (me, him, his roommate, [livejournal.com profile] khirsahdrgn and [livejournal.com profile] feezlekhan gathered at his place, ate good food and watched Peter Jackson's 'King Kong' and the recent 'Batman Begins'. I was impressed with Kong- the scenes on the Empire State really do generate vertigo! Its kinda sad however; the movie makes you hope things'll turn out different this time...

'Batman Begins' rocked tho- I wanna sequel!

As to today- not much happened. I slept most of the day (Yay!), and [livejournal.com profile] ataramos arrived home with [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain, who'd she'd hitched a ride to her folks with whilst he took his relaxation trip. :)

I have ordered John Woo's 'The Killer' on DVD. Its REGIONLESS. Yay!

[livejournal.com profile] ataramos and I were watching TV, and she decided to watch a Godzilla film that she'd earrlier recorded... Godzilla vs. Megalon.

Me- So, have you seen this one?

Ata- Nope. That's why we're watching it.

(time passes, the film starts... the scene with the stupid little kid on the dolphin water-rider comes up)

Ata- O wait. Is this the one with Jet Jaguar?

Me- (grin) Yup!

Ata- O god.

Permagrin on my part results. :)

The ugh- I'm still sick. UGH.

The good news- They're releasing the ORIGINAL VERSIONS of the first (temporally, not chronologically) three Star Wars Films, available til December 31st! Yay!

No more fucktard-inspired 'greedo-shot-first'!

I feel a bit better cos of this. USA Today also has an article, a bit longer, in today's Life section.

Last night I finally watched 'Fantastic Four' and 'Ong Bak'... And watched 'The Brother's Grimm' the night before. I liked all three!

To the people who didn't like FF- What the hell? It was good! They were faithful to the spirit of the series, and managed to patch some of the worst logic-bugs! Doom as a corporate type works, especially if you noted the throwaway reference to Latveria...

Ong Bak was cool. Odd sound quality, but cool nontheless. :)

The biggest problem with 'The Brother's Grimm' was that it was totally misrepresented in the advertisements- but then, everything that Gilliam does seems to be cursed with that fate. Stupid Movie Ad-execs. Geez, can these people EVER get a clue?

But all three arte added to the Movie Buylist... But I think I'll wait for the Special Edition of FF, for lost scenes and the like. :)

Next to watch, 'Batman Begins'.

I've added a few more. :)

Pom Poko (DVD)
Toy Story (DVD)

264 total, of which 44 are VHS.

I will have them all... BWAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

People who know me and whom I've talked to have probably heard me talk about my movie collection. Incessantly. Well, I've decided in a what-the-hell way to put the current list here. I'm putting it behind a cut because its huge.

It WILL get bigger. Prolly this week. :)

I am such a junkie.

I heard about some commentary on the Forum above and it ticked me off because so many don't know anything about the hows and whys of Spider-Man the character, and the history thereof. So, I got kinda silly and put this up as a new thread. :) [livejournal.com profile] ataramos Told me of the comments, and its all her fault.

Oh, the url for the forum is http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0413300/ Scroll down toward the bottom of the page for the forum link.

Here we go- the thread is titled 'Notes for the Young'uns' :)

Spider-Man is a character about CHARACTER. As in, there is supposed to be pathos and humanity in the character- this is what distinguished him AS a character way back when- previously in the comics, super-heros weren't really people. They were two-dimensional characters wearing costumes going from one battle to the next, with no real development as people.

With Spider-Man, Steve Ditko and Stan Lee came up with someone who was a real person, rather than just a funky suit and flashy powers- Peter Parker had a LIFE outside the costume, and this created unending problems for him. In this, he became a great deal more REAL than the heros of the older comics. The appearance of Spider-Man marked a maturing of the genre of superhero comics and stories, moving them beyond the 'beat up the bad guy' stage to something where there were ramifications and effects to the actions of the hero.

As such, its not just about what villain will appear in the story. Its about the character and his life- Everything that Spider-Man does, affects in a very real way the life of Peter Parker and the people around him.

This being said, don't look for the more recent characters of the Marvel Canon showing up. It wouldn't do justice to the character. More than likely, they are going to stick with the 'classic' primary villains of Spider-Man. And I think that that is the best way to go, given the storyline so far in the first two movies. As a prediction, the Primary villain will likely be The Lizard, as Doctor Connors has been firmly established in the storyline, and the secondary villain (yes, I believe there WILL be a secondary villain this time) will be the second Green Goblin, aka Harry Osborn, as he discovers the truth of what happened with his father and Spider-Man...

A final comment- The Hobgoblin will NOT appear. He is a MUCH later character, and really was rather a secondary villain, never of the calibre of the original Goblin. Venom won't appear, as hes ALSO a far later character, and they'd have to create a whole new origin (Secret Wars stank like rotting fish). And John Jamison will NOT be a 'new' Venom. He, in the comics, became Man-Wolf, who is another possibility for a character, but I don't think they'll go that route.

Flame away, kids.
