WHEE!

Oh- and the Traveller writeup is almost done- I should have it up in an hour or so. :)

Okay- Magera, my old G4 400 desktop has had what I needed taken off and dropped onto the laptop, and its been disassembled for transport to [livejournal.com profile] feezlekahn's place- he's getting my old scanner as well, and I'm getting an 8 1/2 x 11 HP scanner from [livejournal.com profile] foeclan. Yay! I've taken the table that all of this crap was on and I can now continue to the next step= vacuuming and rearranging the damn remaining cords and cables. I'll be painting Monday I think.

In any event, The two people mentioned above, [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain and all of the Usual housemates save for [livejournal.com profile] khirsahdrgn are over for pizza and TV/Movies- So thats a good thing. Tomorrow is Traveller, and I'm looking forward. :)

I figured it was about time that I posted an update here, so here goes. Not a lot has been going on, mostly just the usual stuff at work and at home. I've finally started dumping my music CDs onto the laptop, and I've now got more than a gig of music on the thing. I've roughly 4 or 5 gigs of space left on my 40 gig drive, though, which is getting me considering the purchase of a 100 gig drive, maybe bigger. Especially since the laptop is at about the age where the drive failed in the old Ibook Indigo. But, we'll see. I don't really have the cash for it after all.

I also finally read Dante's Inferno and The Canterbury Tales; I have to say that the latter are pretty... Dry. Oh well. At least this translation of The Inferno didn't put me to sleep in two paragraphs! Next up on the reading list is the complete stories of Sherlock Holmes. After that, maybe some of the other 'classic' literature I've got around here, possibly all of the Shakespere plays.

As to writing, I've got the next game-writeup for our Sunday game done, which is the third installment of the Traveller set- I need to get a name to finish it though- More than likely it'll be live here Tuesday evening or Wednesday sometime.

A final note- Yes, I'm still hooked on City of Heroes. I'm kinda flipping back and forth between Genetic Blue (L34 Invuln/Energy Tank) and a newer character, ShadowMatch (L18 Dark/Dark Scrapper)- She's got wings! I'll get her pic(s) and background up this week too.

Okay... Today and last night now decidedly do not qualify for my list of 'the best' for times. The shift went fine as far as I knew, with me getting a nice score in that someone is throwing out a VERY nice corner-desk unit; the Account Manager has okayed it, so I'll be picking it up Thursday afternoon with dad and his trailer. It'll end up in the front room, prolly with my old computer setup. In any event, I went home and got a call almost right off the bat- one of the radios was missing. No biggie, it was misplaced and I miscounted last night.

And so, it began. I went in and played some City of Heroes (Yay! Servers stayed up!) and had breakfast; at about 9:30, I got a call from the Account Manager- there'd been a break-in on MY shift. 4th floor of one of the buildings; I think its prolly safe to say that much. According to the report I just read, there were few signs of forced entry. What ticks me off is that I saw NOTHING. Zip. I hate that. Not that there was anything I could really do other than call the police. I'm gonna start doing a few extra little observational walks through the buildings each night, just to try and improve the situation.

After that, I had trouble sleeping; this wasn't from the work-stuff. I had problems yesterday, too. Minor insomnia-bout, I think. Not a bad one. I'd made tentative plans with [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain and [livejournal.com profile] zxizaraxii to do a little City of Heroes teaming on the Valentines Event special missions... Due to bad timing, bad planning on my part and misunderstandings it kinda got cocked up. We did the first two missions with WILDLY different difficulties, due to the characters used and the bizarre level-spread; I'd done the first mission solo in the morning (just to see if I could) and it was pretty easy; the second mission was a bizarre cakewalk, WAY too easy with me as the mission-bearer lowering the difficulties for everyone.

Then we re-did the first mission, for [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain with [livejournal.com profile] zxizaraxii taking the mission lead... BAD choice. Where everything was ignorably low-level before, now it was ALL red and purple (read: higher level than all but one of us!) and we got stomped. I ended up in a cell when I got whacked and tried to hospital out!

With a character-substitution by [livejournal.com profile] zxizaraxii the mission was salvaged, but it still was a cluster-fuck. We broke off after that, and I finished off some non-event stuff, then napped.

I'll plan better the next time.

And finally, the details of my new computer. :)

GIGAN!

Case: Antec NSK 4400 case with a 380 watt power supply.
Motherboard: ECS EliteGroup HT2000 CSIGM-M Motherboard, socket AM2
Processor: AMD Sempron 3400+ socket AM2
Graphics: ATI Radeon X1310 Pro, 256 megabytes DDR2
Memory: 1 gigabyte Buffalo DDR
Hard Drive: Seagate 160 gigabyte Serial ATA/300 7200 RPM with 8 megabyte cache
CD/DVD: Generic CD-RW/DVD-RW drive
Monitor: Acer 17" AL 1716B LCD
Keyboard: Belkin Standard Keyboard (this $9.00 piece of work is gonna get replaced...)
Mouse: Logitech Marble Trackball
Speakers: Logitech R-10

Future mods will prolly be a faster processor and more memory. Other than a better keyboard that is. ;)

Well then!

The processor is installed and the computer is assembled. The OS is installed (Windows XP if I recall), but we need to do all the updates. This is an OLD copy. Old enough that it doesn't even include Service Pack 1. O.o So, the thing will be downloading updates and patches all friggin' night. Then, tomorrow, I can finally install City of Heroes and City of Villains, and get to character-creation! Yay!

One small thing- we weren't able to get the originally-chosen processor, because they didn't have it in stock. However, the one we did get is more than sufficient. If I want to, I'll upgrade to a dual-core sometime down the line.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] mirrdae for helping get the bits together and supplying the OS, and to [livejournal.com profile] foeclan for putting the damn thing together and getting the software-installations started! Additional thanks will be issued to whomever else helps out with the beast. :)

As to other things, I'm now at work with little drive to write. If I get in the mood later I'll try to get something done, either the Werewolf synopsis, or the journal posts from Goblin in the [livejournal.com profile] vanguard_x community.

Oh, one last thing. The new machine is named GIGAN. I'll put up its exact specs when I get home this coming morning. :)

Something happened on FurryMUCK that really got me pissed... But that little statement is all I'm going to say about it, other than betraying people's trust is a really stupid thing to do if you wanna actually HAVE friends.

In other, less annoying news, I haven't made the homemade bread yet because there's been too much stuff going on. I'll try to get to it soon. The new toy remains in pieces til we get the processor ([livejournal.com profile] mirrdae should be picking it up after work today), and either [livejournal.com profile] mirrdae or maybe another of my techie friends can assist me with the assembly. Mostly I'm concerned about the processor- I really don't wanna fry it. That, and installing the OS. With some kind of miraculous luck I might be beating things up on Monday, with a razor-thin chance of earlier than that.

Other than that, I got the latest synopsis for the Vanguard campaign done. Its at http://community.livejournal.com/vanguard_x/22142.html so enjoy. :)

I'll get Goblin's posts up soon as well, plus the Werewolf synopsis from Sunday.

I have my new toy! ...Well, mostly. I've got the case, motherboard, graphics card, drives, keyboard, trackball, Logitech speakers, surge protector and a nice Acer 17" flatscreen monitor. I have to get the processor chip yet, because of a snafu at the store. It was given be the floor assistant to the salesperson, but they never rang it up and never gave it to me. Their screwup, but my fault as well for not thinking to check and ask before I left the store. Oh well. Its not gonna get set up til later this week at the earliest anyway.

I also now have City of Heroes and City of Villains. Yay!

Erf. Wanna play NOW!

Well then- the AC was still icing up so I had Reliant send out the serviceman again- he recharged the system again (a bit of a cheat, but we don't KNOW its leaking for sure), and now its back to working properly. As implied above, he suspects what I suspected- there's a leak in the lines somewhere. To trace it and fix it DOES cost somewhat, but it'll be a LOT cheaper than replacing the unit! So, we're gonna see if we can make it for the next month as-is, and get the trace-and-repair job done next spring. If we NEED it this year... I'll bite the bullet and get it fixed.

Onto other things- the problem that existed between me and a friend mentioned in previous posts has for the most part resolved via discussion and cooling-off. Obviously, there is prolly a problem that should sometime be adressed, but not right now. We both know that there were misunderstandings, and we've botn stepped back and reassessed so that we're past it and are back to normal. So THAT'S kinda solved, for those who were worried. :)

Next, as people who read this thing are aware I've been doing more writing- mostly game-run synopses and such, but its good practice and ANY writing helps your ability. I've been trying to work on doing in-story dialogue and 'written perspective', two things I'm BADLY deficient with. The next things coming up are the summary of the last run of the current cycle of the Buffy Horror campaign, and then some journal entries for the [livejournal.com profile] vanguard_x group, which I'm referring to as the 'Goblin's Guide to Vanguard' posts. :) I hope to have one or two of those up before Saturday, and with luck I'll have the Buffy run finished and 'live' here by Friday. With THAT one I need to talk to the players for details I can't recall.

Lessee, what else... Oh! The power supply for my old Ibook Indigo crapped out- we think its a busted wire or the like in the cord. But... [livejournal.com profile] ataramos found a refurbished one online, and now its back running! Hee- all I need now is to replace the battery and it'll be (almost) better than when I got it! ...Well, except for the blue rubbery bits of the case starting to peel off...

This weekend the Vanguard game returns, run by [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain; Our Heroes have travelled to Fey in pursuit of the maybe-or-maybe-not Evil Threat personified by the EPOCH computer persona, currently possessing the form of a formerly-comatose man PREVIOUSLY possessed by the formless stimulus-junkie called Shayde! Shayde may or may not STILL be in there! Join us for the next exciting episode within the Archipelago of Fey for... "Mountains of Madness from Molehills"! Be there!

We, as yuu might see from other posts here on LJ, Here in Minnesota we got socked by a major storm last night, starting about 7:30 PM Central time, roughly. We lost power around 8:30, and it was as black as pitch outside other than the lightning. We (Me, [livejournal.com profile] ataramos, [livejournal.com profile] mirrdae and [livejournal.com profile] khirsadrgn ) apparently JUST got power back at about 2:30 PM today. Bleah.

During the storm, the gutters clogged (again) tho I couldn't go on the roof to clear them- fortunately the little 4' ladder I just got for painting and lightwork lets me reach the problematic ones, those in front, which are the ones that can lead to leakage in the basement...

As I was leaving for work around 10:30 PM I noticed that the downspouts for the back, flat roof were also plugged, with water pouring over the edge. I cleared those, and recleared the others this morning.

One other note- our power supply in my room, that the network and my desktop were plugged into, is no more. It beeped feebly for a few minutes, than apparently died. So THAT has to be replaced.

I get to continue digging the egress window hole tonight, when I get the ambition.

ITS HERE!

I tried to stay up til the Ibook arrived, finally giving up and crashing at 11:30. According to Atara, it arrived at 1 PM, damn near on the dot. I got up and got to futzing with it after 6:30, but with low sleep, my tendonitis flaring and my usual deficit of computer knowledge, the frustration was significant.

Not its fault of course. Shit just seemed to be going badly tonight. O well. At least its here, I've got Mozilla and Trebuchet (a MUCK client) installed, and tomorrow I'll start loading the crap from the old Ibook onto the new one. I'm debating getting a new copy of Diablo 2 for the new one rather than just transferring the copy from the old laptop, so we have YET ONE MORE machine to lanparty with. :)

Well, back to work. Bleah. Hopefully, the damn hot wire in my left forearm will subside soon...

I ordered my new laptop at long last yesterday, and it'll get to me sometime today before 3 PM. Its an IBook 1 gig G4, 133 mhz bus, 768 mb memory, Airport Extreme card, and a CD/DVD r/w drive- it has a 14.1" screen and I'm really lookin' forward to it. :)

Whee, DEBT! :P

and again. This one from Joshuain/Sylvan.

(Oh- [livejournal.com profile] mirrdae, [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain= part of the trouble with the wireless might be the transmission band of the cordless phone out front... See Skye-Bluedeer's LJ entry.)
