Right then. And Now, The News.
Oct. 12th, 2009 08:42 amThis is the first in about four posts I'm putting up this morning, three of which are about writing. This first one however, is a bit of an announcement. Many of you who know me on FurryMUCK or Altered Realities may have heard this already. This year at Midwest Furfest I will NOT be holding a Tea Party. The reason is simple: I had two years of single-digit attendance, and with numbers that low I can't afford to drop $50-odd dollars and 30+ hours to set it up. And those costs are just considering the cookies!
I'll still have tea and cookies, just not as many, and no formal party. I'll be at the hotel as of the Wednesday before the con, so I'll see people there! I just put in my time off request, and as soon as I'm done futzing with LiveJournal, I'll be getting my train tickets.
In other news, the Halloween party that I throw every is once again on for the 31st of October, aka Halloween night. Turkey and much food will be had as usual, and if you were here last year you're prolly welcome this year. I'll get emails out to people soonish. :)

In the news...
Jun. 11th, 2009 02:44 pmFirst, David Carradine did NOT commit suicide according to the independent autopsy commissioned by the family; however, they didn't say if it was murder or accidental (i.e. autoerotic strangulation gone wrong).
Second, in news of the odd, Chastity Bono, daughter of Sonny and Cher, is having gender-reassignment surgery. ...Tell me again, WHY we needed to know this? O.o

I can't sleep, but I found this:
Jun. 5th, 2009 09:22 amhttp://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/06/05/carradine.death/index.html
Notably, I DID say to several people that I thought there was something not quite right about the suicide theory.

As you've likely heard...
Aug. 1st, 2007 08:56 pmThe I35W bridge over the Mississippi River in Minneapolis between Washington and University Avenues collapsed today at roughly 6 PM, during rush hour and the buildup to a Minnesota Twins (Baseball) Game; 50-100 cars were on the bridge, as were an unknown number of construction workers. There is only one confirmed fatality at this point, but I doubt it'll stay that low. There has been speculation as to WHY it collapsed, but no data is in as of yet. However, the construction on the bridge, which was a resurfacing project, has been RULED OUT. If you can get a local (to MN) newsfeed on the Net or watch on TV, that'll be your best source for information. CNN has 3 fatalities reported, but I've heard nothing beyond one.
Notably I'm okay. There's only one person whom I'm concerned about at this point, but I'll not say who so as to not worry people unduly.
Please, don't start or spread speculative rumors about the whys and hows of this- it just feeds the conspiracy loonies and helps nobody.

Dec. 27th, 2006 12:44 amI went to my appointment with the allergist. It went pretty much as I expected, and I'm now on a 6-day course of Prednesone, of which the purpose of is essentially bitch-slapping my immune-system back into proper behavior. For some reason unknown to me my bidy just once in a while decides 'Hey! Lets go batfuck crazy and have asthma attacks all the time! Yeah, thats a GREAT idea!' Notably, I'm not as thrilled as my existential innards are at the prospect of wheezing and hacking. Thus, the prednesone.
In other news, the water cooler is packed up and ready to be returned, with the prospect of a less-shitty one being obtained to replace it. I look forward to it. The cooler
mirrdae has at his work turns out to be utterly unmarked as to model and brand, and may have migrated from another, now closed office. So I'm back to contemplating the GE model.
Right now I'm at work, killing time before the next round. I might MUCK about, or not; we'll see. And thats about all there is right now...
Other than we have #2 famous death of the required mythic three: Gerald Ford, Oldest living former president passed away at 93. he was the only President to have attained the office without having been voted in as President or Vice-President. Check your favorite news site for more information.

Carpenter Nature Center!
Oct. 8th, 2006 04:44 pmWe just got back from the Nature Center, and I (and I think all of us) had a good time. We walked the trails, getting down to the river... I was a little disappointed (tho not real surprised) that we didn't see any critters other than a pair of toads and a squirrel. O well. I DID see either a bald eagle or a turkey vulture circling high above- I tried to point it out to
joshuwain, but it went out of sight before he could spot it.
As a tally, it was myself,
ataramos,
joshuwain,
foeclan and
feezlekhan who went. We left around 9:30 AM, getting there a bit after 10 or so. After we left we stopped and ate at a lil place in St. Paul called Chatterbox, which is a neat little place where I was able to catch the end of the Vikes/Lions game. We won! Yay!
I did something I've not done before too- I filled the flashcard for my camera. :)
A last note- I just learned from
hakeber's journal that Wilson "Bob" Tucker has died. He was one of the greats in the SF fandom, and he will be missed.
One last time, Tucker... "Smoooooooth."
