I'm on a four day weekend, mostly because I wanted it and because it means I won't have to rush to work right after the game on Sunday. This is a good thing. And because I had a little extra cash after paying the bills and getting groceries I decided to get some books. This was done in two halves- some ordered from Barnes & Noble online, the rest gotten CHEAP from Half Price Books.

From Barnes & Noble I got:

My Big Fat Supernatural Wedding (A collection of supernatural wedding tales including one from the Dresden Files)

My Big Fat Supernatural Honeymoon (Companion to the above)

Strange Brew (An anthology centered around alcohol, with a Dresden Story)

Mean Streets (YET ANOTHER Anthology, this one of gritty city supernatural tales. Another Dresden tale in this one as well)

Armageddon 2419 AD (The ORIGINAL Buck Rogers story! Beware the Yellow Peril! Despite that, its a good read.)

The above have all shipped, and will probably get here by Wednesday.

From Half Price Books, the haul was bigger and smaller- bigger, in that there were more books bought, smaller, as it'd take three or more of them to match ONE of the anthologies in size! [livejournal.com profile] feezlekahn accompanied me- we went to the one near Northtown Mall, north of us.

Han Solo's Revenge by Brian Daley (A Star Wars novel, one of three from Daley. Guilty pleasure from long ago)

Ambulance Ship by James White (A tale of the Hospital Station series)

A Swiftly Tilting Planet by Madeline L'Engle (The third book from the Wrinkle In Time series)

The Moon Maid by Edgar Rice Burroughs (A true pulp, I saw it and at a dollar I HAD to get it!)

Dorsai! by Gordon R. Dickson (The classic, I've never read it!)

The Mummy, or Ramses The Damned by Anne Rice (From her Vampire Chronicles series, tho he ain't a vamp!)

The Tale of the Body Thief by Anne Rice (More Vampire Chronicles and Lestat)

The Fortress in the Eye of Time by C. J. Cherryh (I've no idea, but its a fantasy and its Cherryh!)

And that's the haul. Most of the stuff from Half Price were a buck or two each. I may order one or two books further on Barnes & Noble, but that'll hinge on their actually HAVING what I'm after. I've gotten a taste for some of the older and more obscure stuff I remember reading long ago. :)

Also on Friday, I made chili. I, [livejournal.com profile] feezlekahn partook, though I did offer to [livejournal.com profile] mirrdae and [livejournal.com profile] zxizaraxii. They'd already eaten, however. [livejournal.com profile] khirsahdrgn had a guest over so I didn't ask him. The chili was a good batch, and I REALLY ought to write the damned recipe down- I make it from memory every time and I know there are a few who'd like to know what goes in. [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain brought over some odd hamburgers made of ground sirloin and a couple of different mushrooms ground together too... They weren't to my taste, and the Oniony kaiser rolls weren't something I like. However, I'm a fussy bitch and it's prolly just me. ;)

And now we get to the 'bad' and the 'it f*cking figures' part. I couldn't sleep today. I tried, and it just didn't happen. So I ended up staying up playing 'UFO Alien Attack', and OLD Microprose game for about six hours, til I headed out to the book store. The fatigue finally started taking me down after dinner, so I kinda slumped unconscious after my dinner companions went off to see a movie. I think it was 'Kick Ass' but I was pretty muzzy by then. And now I know WHY I was screwed up- I've apparently gotten a cold or something, and I set to kicking my butt with a vengeance. I took ibuprofin and sudafed, and slept like the dead through fever-sweats. I THINK the fever broke, but I hope like hell I can get over this before Sunday. I REALLY wanna game! Thus, It F*CKING FIGURES that I'd get sick on a long weekend!

Feh. And that's it. Right now I'm up, feeling better and drinking tea. My throat feels like its been sanded and there's drainage, but other than that I seem okay... But we'll see. Thus today will be me trying to make sure its GONE.

Reply to this meme by yelling "Words!" and I will give you five words that remind me of you.
Then post them in your LJ and explain what they mean to you.

Here are the words [livejournal.com profile] equusmaximus gave me:

Cervids
Well, deer. And the related hoofers thereof. On Furrymuck I'm Sorien, who is normally an antelope-ish centaur. I've always liked centaurs, and Sori was made due to that and my desire to do something a little bit different on FM. :)

Tea
One of my primary beverages of choice, the others being beer and milk. I've been drinking tea since I was about 8 years old, and my main brand is Lipton- note that Lipton, at least in the US, is JUST tea leaves, no fillers or flavors. I can't vouch for elsewhere though. It isn't the best tea, but I like it. I generally prefer strong black teas (China and Russian Blacks, Assams and similar), but I do drink green teas from time to time. I don't use sweeteners or anything else- just the tea and hot water. And I drink a LOT- if it's cold out I can go through 15 cups or more in an evening. The warmer it is, the less I drink, though I never quite reach zero intake.

Oz
L. Frank Baum's lasting creation. Mostly I just like the original movie, especially the Art Deco and Modern styling of the sets. I really need to read the books!

Centaurs
As I said under the Cervid entry, I like centaurs. I've played several equine-based centaurs in role playing games, with the first being my fighter Dior. His name came from the SIlmarillon, and he was supposed to have been a Grey Elf who'd been changed into a centaur who was furred over the entire body; not my most imaginative creation. He ended up as a sort-of scholar and collector of knowledge. I had several more over the years, notably Roland (a great-grandchild of Dior), Lathan (in [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain's Twin Empires world), Several Avatar characters usually named Mara, and a feline centaur, also named Mara, in Jim Felling's PAWN campaign... Oy. Those were years back. Now the only active centaur I have is Sorien, but I likely will create and play another someday.

Friend
... What can be said? I've a lot of friends, Many on line and many "RL"; I DO count [livejournal.com profile] equusmaximus as a friend, though the odds of a face-to-face meeting in the near future is pretty damned slim- they're in Canada and getting settled in a new home and business(es), and I simply don't have the cash (or the passport!) to travel all that much. What I count as a friend is a person I can talk to, have fun with, and who can take the time to understand (and accept) me as ME. As who I am, not who they think I should be. A friend is there for you when you need them, if they can be without ruining their own lives, and is someone who you'd be there for when they are in need. Friends stand up for each other, understand that bad moods happen, that stupid things get said occasionally, and the nobody is perfect; a friend will mend the fences when they make mistakes or hurt those they know whether on purpose or by accident, and will forgive when the reverse occurs. Friends will also overlook the foibles that people possess... To a point.

And that's the five words. :)

Well, my eyes eem about the same, and I'll have two new pairs of glasses sometime before the 26th. Yay! I also have the money, or most of it, for MFF too. So things proceed apace. A little while ago I got back from dinner with [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain, [livejournal.com profile] foeclan and [livejournal.com profile] feezlekahn at Sarna's. Nice little place, I just had the burger and a Fat Tire (its a beer!). It was a nice meal and a nice conversation, and now I'm on City of Villains playing Endure again. She's now Level 47!

Last night I, [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain and [livejournal.com profile] feezlekahn met up with [livejournal.com profile] prismo for dinner and visitation, as he was in town- he'd been working in Rochester, and was now in a hotel near the Mall of America til his flight home, which is at 7 AM today. We ate at Kahn's Mongolian Barbecue, then wandered over to the Mall for ice cream at Cold tone Creamery. A good time was had by all. :)

here's hoping your flight is a good one!

Happy Birthday [livejournal.com profile] cuprohastes!

I hope you have a good day today, and expand your hoard!

Well, I decided to make my spaghetti sauce again. Not too many changes to it this time, tho I lessened the salt, put the mushrooms back in and forgot the red pepper. It was a bit bland to my taste, but O well.

Participating in the feedination were: Me, [livejournal.com profile] ataramos, [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain, [livejournal.com profile] mirrdae, [livejournal.com profile] zxizaraxii, [livejournal.com profile] feezlekhan and [livejournal.com profile] khirsahdrgn. I think people enjoyed it. :)

The menu was as follows-

Spaghetti marinara with mushrooms
Breaded herb chicken breasts
Bruscetta (Provided by [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain)
Italian Bread

No dessert was made, as there is generally little room for such at one of my meals. ;)

I've a few minutes before I go out the door for an errand, so here's a little update. I'm all set with AC prep now but for the packing- the money is set aside and I know who is in the room now- Me, [livejournal.com profile] khirsahdrgn and [livejournal.com profile] feezlekhan. I might have room for one on the floor, but talk to me closer to the date. Steve, the fella who usually takes the other bed isn't going this year, due to finances, inability to get the time off and the fact that later this year he's moving to New Hampshire (!!)...

I'm also mostly set for Midwest Furfest. Yay!

On other things- I'm getting over the cold, tho I'm still coughing, its nowhere near as bad as it was earlier. I'm finally cought up on bills (I think), and if I feel up to it I might start dealing with the forest that was once a lawn on Sunday, and maybe de-weed the garden.

Mr. Lillehaug is okay, tho he had to pop back down to the Mayo yesterday- he was getting drainage from the sutures, which isn't supposed to happen. They fixed him back up, and the doctor said, 'If this is the worst thing that happens during your recovery, it'll be smooth sailing'. I think that's the accurate quote. :)

That's it for now. :)

He's out of the hospital and at home as I type this. He'll be out of work for some time yet, but at least he's home. Yay!

And the other stuff? Its raining, I hate rain and I want it to stop. :P
