Ah, another update!

This last week the prep for selling the house started to seriously get into gear. I've been sealing stains on the ceilings in preparation for painting, chipping bubbled paint in the kitchen and doing plasterwork to fix some damage (nail-holes, etc.) in the front room. Today we'll be doing the actual painting of the front and back rooms, the front hall and my bedroom. Once that's done, I'll be continue to cull possessions and such, and during the next few weeks I'll be painting the walls. There's a lot of prepwork to do, still, but once the painting is done we'll have a realtor over to see what we'll get as a price, and whether or not doing the carpet and kitchen floor will be worth it.

Other than all that, work continues to be work, with little new on that front. In the remaining news, I've gotten new (and REAL OLD) art up on my FA (FurAffinity: http://www.furaffinity.net/user/sorien/) site, and a new book- Frostbite. Well, I'm still waiting for it to get here, actually. More new books will be coming over the next few months, and I'm looking forward. I've also gotten a bunch more movies, all from Half Price Books or Pawn America- Captain America and Iron Man 2 being two of them. :)

And that's about it. I'm going to try to get the most recent Horror run typed up sometime today, and maybe try to get the as-yet unfinished writeups for Traveller and the Western Campaign done. Also, watch this space for future writeups for the Vanguard game that is upcoming!

Stuff!

Look! Another update! (gasp!)

Anyway, its just a little one. I got the Xmas tree down today... Which is some kind of record for me, I think. The worst I've ever been was one year I took it down in April. O.o Usually its the last week of January or sometime in February that I get around to it.

As to the housework, like as not I'm going to start painting in the front room. It might be the biggest room that I have to do, but it's also simple, with very little do to in terms of patchwork and stain coverage. From there... Either my bedroom, the front hallway or the bathroom.

Beyond that, life is quiet. I did go over to Pawn America on Tuesday- they have a 2 DVDs for 3 bucks deal, so I got some new films. One of them, Black Mask 2, is enjoyably bad, but it skips and freezes a lot. So, I'll probably exchange it. I did get a few GOOD movies- Shadow of the Vampire, which is sort-of a biopic about Max Schrek, who played the lead in the silent-era Nosferatu, and Gangs of New York, which is just cool.

Tonight I return to running my Pathfinder game, and I THINK I'll be finishing up the current story. I dunno if I'll continue running it, or try something else, or if someone else wants to run something- We'll figure it out. I do have more to run in the world, but I wanna see what the players want to do.

Daily!

Okay. Today I kinda slept poorly, maybe because I went to bed too early- around 5 AM. For me, that's early! I was planning on going to pick something up at Barnes & Noble, but by the time I received a call to go to a mive around 1 PM, I'd totally forgotten. O well, I'll get it after work in the morning.

The movie I went to was 'Tangled', the new Disney take on Rapunzel. What people said to me beforehand is true- the horse steals it. I won't post spoilers at all, but I will say I liked it save for the soundtrack- I was hoping for something more traditional 'old school' Disney. But its a very good film. :)

In the middle of all this I played Diablo II, and got the stupid scroll to open the gate to Tristram on Hell difficulty.

Lastly, and in very odd order I was at [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain's for dinner- a very good and tasty beef roast with carrots and onions. It was he who called about the movie, originally asking if I wanted to see two with him today- Tangled was the second- before that he went to 'The Voyage of the Dawn Treader'. He said it was good, but I've no opinion as I wasn't there!

However, he DID have [livejournal.com profile] feezlekahn at both films.

Rambly as hell, but that's the Daily for today.

Blah.

Just about time for work, and I feel pretty blah. Its the dregs of the stupid cold, I know, but its getting annoying. I haven't heard from the insurance guy yet about the lost shingles, but I expect that in the next few days- there were a LOT of claims from the wind, I expect.

In other things I got the front room mostly cleaned out, and what's left is vacuuming, steam cleaning (Friday for that) and rearranging the furniture. With the TV gone from there I needs to be sorted into more of a sitting room configuration.

I've also gotten a line on a much smaller desk for up there, but I'll not know if Its mine til next week. I really need new furniture. :P

Tomorrow I'll get the front room vacuumed and rearranged, and get going on the kitchen and back rooms. The bathroom actually will be one of the quicker jobs this time- mostly just the tiolet and the countertop.

Thursday night I'll probably go see 'How to Train Your Dragon' over at [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain and [livejournal.com profile] foeclan's place in the evening.

That's it for now. Time to get ready for the nightly grind.

Still more photos today. I took a few before going over to [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain's for the movie 'Zombieland', and also took a few (finally) of Minneapolis from the vicinity of where University Avenue crosses over the railyards. Alas, all of those shots in the dark sucked. Exactly one was worth keeping, ant that only barely. I've uploaded three pics on FurAffinity, so take a look!

http://www.furaffinity.net/user/sorien/

Oh- and ZOmbieland was excellent. Another added to the list of movies to get.

I've started varnishing the new bifold doors for the basement. Yuck. I REALLY suck at this- I can't tell if its on too thick or too thin, it blobs in corners and valleys on the doors... Bleah. Well, the first coat of one side is done. I took the two sides apart to make it easier, and I should get the reverse done later tonight. Tomorrow is the first sanding and the second coat, and given how light it looks I may need to do a second sanding and third coat. O well.

In other news, I'm off to a movie shortly- we (Me, [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain, [livejournal.com profile] feezlekahn, [livejournal.com profile] khirsahdrgn and his guest, and [livejournal.com profile] iatro are headed to see Despicable Me at the Rosedale theater. The latter three will meet us there.

And that's about all that's up now.

Woot. Woot I say! Very excellent. he only things I didn't like were ___ ______ ______ ___ _________, and ___ ____ ____ __ ___ ______, _____ _____ ___ _ ______ ____________ ___ ______ ____ ____ ______ ____ __ ___ _____ __ ___ _____. Oh, and the ______-_______ ___ _ ___ _______. :)

But I wanna see it again. It's definitely a damn good sequel. MAYBE not as good as Spider-Man 2, but if not its VERY close. Oh- I didn't go alone- [livejournal.com profile] feezlekahn was along too, and seemed to like it as well.

See? I CAN post about a movie without spoilers!

As last Friday worked pretty well, I wanna repeat the event and have bad movies and food once again- this time spaghetti and meatballs and a side order of either Frankenstein Conquers The World, Rodan or War of the Gargantuas! [livejournal.com profile] mirrdae, [livejournal.com profile] ataramos, [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain, [livejournal.com profile] khirsahdrgn, [livejournal.com profile] zxizaraxii, [livejournal.com profile] foeclan and [livejournal.com profile] feezlekahn, you're all invited. I know I mentioned this to the household before, but here it is for the mob. :)

Also, today or tonight I plan to pick up the new graphics card. Yay!

Movies!

Tonight I had [livejournal.com profile] feezlekahn and [livejournal.com profile] foeclan over to watch a couple movies. The first was 'Monster X Returns: Attack the G8 Summit!' and it was as bad as the title indicates. Its kind-of a sequel to 'The X From Outer Space aka Guilala', but more its a bad-comedy spoof.

The second film was 'Space Amoeba', better known as 'Yog Monster From Space'. Its a film from my youth, and it was 'better' than the first flick in a relative way... Regardless, I enjoyed them. ;)

Now I'm making dinner, and they've headed home. :)

Bleagh.

Well, I either have a mild cold or something has kicked my allergies into overdrive. As I feel otherwise fine, I suspect its the allergies. Furthermore, I think I knwo what the trigger was- I have one of those little glade scent-things that plugs into a wall socket and heats a gel to produce a scent; previously, it was an apple-cinnamon scent. I tried today a new fragrance, supposedly meant to smell like fresh laundry. What is actually smells like is fabric softener...

A scent that sets my allergies off, including a minor skin reaction (sensitivity). So, I've ditched that gel-pack, and put in an apple cinnamon one. Now I just have t owait for that crap to get out of the air. :P

Other than that, yesterday evening I went out with [livejournal.com profile] feezlekahn to get him a birthday present. Also along was [livejournal.com profile] zxizaraxii. Of course, I ended up getting stuff for myself too, a bunch of new movies. One of these is of particular interest- its a sequel to an old giant monster flick called 'Guilala' that I've been trying to find for years! Now maybe they'll release the original to DVD so we can revel in its devastating badness... ;)

Today I decided, since I had some extra cash that I was going to go out and get a new DVD. Or something. So, to that purpose I ran over to Best Buy to just kinda browse. What I ended up with was a bit more than I planned, and not exactly a DVD...

I picked up V For Vendetta, and some music: Steely Dan- The Definitive Collection, Aerosmith- O Yeah! Ultimate Aerosmith hits (basically a new Greatest Hits collection) and The Beatles- Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band. This last I had previously, but it vanooshed years ago. So for the most part I have more tunage, and I'm currently dumping them into the laptop. :)

Oh... And last night after dinner at Applebee's we did do City of Heroes to all hours. As for dinner itself, I had the Mini French Dip Sliders... Which now seem to be living up to their unfortunate sobriquet... :P

Never again. Good taste, bad side effects.

Mostly this is just an update as to whats been up for the last week. Exciting, eh? But here goes. :)

The 7th to Today )
realsorien: (Default)
Tonight I had [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain, [livejournal.com profile] foeclan and [livejournal.com profile] feezlekahn over for dinner. I made my panstew in a quadruple batch, while Joshuwain brought over a salad that I've once again forgotten the name of- It had cherry tomatoes, mozzarella and (I think) spinach? [livejournal.com profile] zxizaraxii and [livejournal.com profile] mirrdae were there as well, although the latter didn't watch the movie. Anyway, with the food we watched 'Prince Caspian' and I think it was a good evening for all. I've some stew left, so that will be part of breakfast with more beef sandwiches. :)

Friday evening is the Holiday party, and before then I STILL have cleaning to do, and I plan on baking at least SOME cookies- definitely the cinnamon, probably trying to make shortbread cookies too, and maybe peanut butter cookies as well- I may try doing half the PB cookies with chocolate chips!

Other than that, its a quiet night. Oh- hopefully the dryer gets fixed today. Yay!

Oh again- The package that was supposed to arrive today, didn't. I R slightly annoyed. When you pay more for shipping, it damn well better get there on time!
realsorien: (Default)
I didn't get much of anything done today, though I did finally watch my rented copy of 'The Incredible Hulk'. Good movie, not quite on the same level as Iron Man though. It seemed kinda rushed to me. I also rewatched 'Wall-E' AGAIN. This is probably my favorite animated film now. :)

As to the headache thing, I was feeling kind-of dizzy for most of the evening. I finally knew what it was when I got to work- a migraine trying to set its hooks into me! Ibuprofin and several cups of strong tea later and it was suppressed, though still there in the background. As I write this I feel a lot better, but I'm really wiped out. At least the night is almost over.

Today I'll see how many ideas I have for Xmas shopping together, and decide on whether to order or go to the stores- that, if I go, will be sometime this week. Also today I plan to get the tree up. More than likely in the afternoon when I get up; Getting the tree out of the washroom closet in the basement in the morning would probably wake people up and result in my untimely death...

That's about it!

Thursday!

Once again I crashed a bit early, right about midnight. The tea party was a bust- nobody showed. I'll try to do another on Sunday, maybe. O well, I need better advertising! ;)

We ate again at the Rise & Dine, which is a great place with big portions- for those in Minnesota its a LOT like Keys Cafe. More food good. :)

Right now I'm just in the room watching 'The Incredible Mr. Limpet' with Skye. :)
realsorien: (Default)
Was pretty good. I got together with [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain and [livejournal.com profile] feezlekahn over at their place for dinner and a movie. I decided to make meatloaf and mashed potatoes, and the meatloaf turned out pretty damned good for something I'd not made in 15 or so years. It needed more salt and pepper, mostly. Next time. :)

We watched 'The Golden Compass' and my opinion was... Migod, the editor needs to die. Seriously. From what I was told, something like 50+ minutes were summarily lopped out of the film, and the editor fired to bring in another guy who tried to cut it like an action film! The result? A choppy, confusing film that DESPERATELY needed more meat to the story. Grr. I hate stupid people.

I got home around 9, and ended up with a nasty headache. I dozed on the couch a little bit, then dosed with aspirin and crashed for an hour. It subsided mostly, then I was off to work. For those that were wondering, I stayed offline cos I REALLY had to work on the 7th Seas writeup for the last run. I've gotten it about half done, and hopefully I'll finish it before Sunday.

I'm also contemplating overtime this week to start building the cash I'll need for MFF. I have $600, and I fugure I need $800 more so I have the transport costs covered plus enough to have a solid good time on. Anything extra will pay for Xmas. :)

Now I'm home and have just had leftover meatloaf and hash browns. Yay!

I dunno why I'm posting this, probably because I think I should put SOMETHING here every once in a while. Its just a minor comment or observation- What is the fascination with zombies these days? There's the 'Marvel Zombies' crap, the unending chain of zombie flicks, 'Blog Like Its The End Of The World,' books, stories and whatnot- I guess I don't get whats interesting about the end of the world, the death of all you know (and the potential that they might EAT you), and the associated horrors.

Maybe I'm just crabby at the over-focus on the pessimistic... Or maybe I'm gettin' old and longing for the good old days where the hero WON. :P

Grumpgrumpgrump...

Gerroffa Mah Porch y'dam' kids afore ah set th' dorgs on ye! [coughs weezingly, doesn't have a dog...]

Well, I finally dragged my ass out of bed around 10 AM. I took a shower, then called down to see if the buffet was still going. The front desk said yes, so I want down. Only to find out that it had closed at 10. Bleh. I ended up calling [livejournal.com profile] foeclan and then meeting up with him and [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain at the Woodfield Mall.

After a bit of browsing to help [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain on celphone-options, we ended up having a meal at Red Robin. Not bad, but I really wanted breakfast! After that we wandered back to the hotel and went our separate ways.

I decided to unload some more of my cookies after a while, and got a bunch together in a bag and distributed them amongst varied artists and convention staffers. Ha! Take THAT, no-signage hotel!

Anyway, whilst I did that I also went through the dealer's room, art show and artist's alley. First run through for the con, and I commissioned two sketches- one by DarkNatasha in the 'what happens next' sketchbook, starting a new series, and one in my 'Sorien' book. I think I'll keep it down to maybe four pics this year.

Later, I ended up hooking up with [livejournal.com profile] bluedeer and had dinner at Sbarros (yah, I know, not a great place- but it wasn't bad, either, and was VERY filling), wandered the mall some (got a set of four LED lights for 5 bucks from Radio Shack) and then returned to the hotel. Thereafter I kinda holed up in the room.

Later, [livejournal.com profile] morgantaur stopped by, having just arrived. We talked for a while, until [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain called to borrow my rescue inhaler.

I made that delivery, then returned to the room. Shortly thereafter [livejournal.com profile] bluedeer got back to the room with a friend, and we put in 'Ratatouille'. That's about it for the first day. :)

Here's a general update on whats been up, as I've been posting less than usual here. First off, Happy Birthday wishes for [livejournal.com profile] ataramos and [livejournal.com profile] feezlekahn! Giftage is in the works! Next up, the actual news of life- Not much. Other than the 35W bridge collapse, life here has been pretty quiet. I got a couple of new pics done recently, and I may post them here soon- they're of my City of Heroes characters ShadowMatch and Genetic Blue. I've been playing a bit less recently, though the addiction is still in full force.

At work I've been able (in the nights that I've been in the 'sit on my ass' post in suite 300) to watch a few movies on the laptop- So far, I've rewatched 'Fight Club', 'The Quick and the Dead', 'Die Hard' and 'Die Hard 2: Die Harder', and a few others that I've forgotten at the moment. It's got me wanting to go on another DVD buying spree. ;)

In general Gaming news, the Saturday Vanguard game is on hiatus until mid-September for various reasons- I'm looking forward to the return to that game! In the Sunday group, we did the last of the set for Traveller; I'll have that written up either tonight (its 0210 as I write this, so I doubt that'll happen) or early this coming week. Next up would be Werewolf, but due to scheduling conflicts it looks like another 'filler' run of the Buffy Horror will take place.

Further- My roomie [livejournal.com profile] zxizaraxii has started a journal for the posting of Rikti War Stories; its at http://community.livejournal.com/invasionjournal/ I dunno if its open to all, so ask him. I might have something short for that soon.

And that's pretty much it for now. I'll post again if there's something else.

Edit: Damn, I got it done. Next post is the Traveller writeup!
realsorien: (Default)
Well, here's a little life update, though nothing particularly untoward has occurred. I just figured I'd post a bit of what's been going on. Last week i took two days off at the beginning of the week so that I could have a shot at going to fireworks; that didn't pan out, but on the Fourth I ended up at Keegan's Pub with [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain, [livejournal.com profile] foeclan and [livejournal.com profile] feezlekahn for dinner and drinks; Good conversation was had with good food (and in my case, beer), and afterwards we watched the episode of the new Dr. Who titled 'Blink', which was amusing.

On the 5th I helped [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain set up the Gaming suite for Convergence, thereafter having dinner with him and others (including the two mentioned above) at TGI Fridays. That night I started my abbreviated workweek, and on Saturday I was at Convergence doing 3 hours of badging in the Gaming suite. Sunday found me helping with teardown, and given that I had a good time despite being stuck in the Gaming suite and seeing literally none of the rest of the con, I'll be actually attending next year.

On Monday I went to Ratatoille with [livejournal.com profile] joshuwain and [livejournal.com profile] feezlekahn, and it was a GOOD movie; I recommend it, and as usual the short at the beginning was damn near worth the price of admission. Other than that I've been playing a bit less City of Heroes, although I'm not likely to give this up til the game itself disappears.

And that pretty much sums stuff up for roughly the last two weeks. Whee!
