Updates on stuff.
Dec. 6th, 2007 04:41 pmWell, its been a relatively uninspired 2 weeks since my last post, but heres a few things that have happened: the usual Vanguard run was called on account of player illness (last Saturday), snow has returned (yay! and Bleah!) I've shovelled out the front walk and used the snow blower to clear out the back driveway (before I could someone copped my gas can, so I had to get one of dad's spares), I've barely started planning for the Xmas purchases and I haven't gotten the tree up yet, Scott L. stopped over the other day and I gave him the lil gift I picked up at MFF for him- he agreed that it was appropriate and laughed, and I also showed him City of Heroes, helping him build a variant of one of his characters. Originally named Thunderball, he ended up being named Thunderball, he's now called Thunder-Mace.
A few other things happened as well, like me finally getting new wiper blades for the car (exciting!) and I made my pan-stew again- that turned out good and the recipe will be below. The last not other than that though is that I can use the laptop at work again- I may be back online at night, if I can get a signal. ;)
Beef Pan Stew
(Given my appetite, this feeds two. For more normal appetites, this is probably four servings.)
1 pound sirloin (other cuts work, but might take longer to get tender)
1 medium or 2 small yellow onions, diced
1 can sliced carrots (save some of the liquid, but add them drained)
2 cans potatoes, drained (you'll have to cut them smaller)
1 can green beans, drained
1 can consomme or vegetable broth or beef broth
3/4 cup flour
Spices (I use salt, pepper, a dash of red pepper, and 4 shakes of Mrs. Dash spice blend in the flour mix)
Dried parsley and chives
Canola oil
Cube the sirloin and bread it in the flour and spice mix, then fry it in canola oil until its browned. put the diced onions in and cook til they clear. Pour in the consomme and scrape the pan to get the stuck stuff up, then add the vegetables- if its too thick, use some of the reserved carrot juice to thin it. Add a few shakes of salt, pepper and Mrs. Dash, and a few tablespoons of the parsley and chives. stir together and simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
For those who don't have Mrs. Dash locally, its a salt-free 'salt substitute' that is a mix of herbs and spices. Use whatever spice blend you prefer.
